Any chance we can get illusions to be able to be done before we do a balance thing, instead of only after? "Anti-illusion" systems that work off of timers combined with the whole arts skillset make illusions pretty useless and I wish this wasn't so!

Last time I checked, timers didn't stop illusionary phantom, reality, wounds, etc. There is a lot more to illusions than just simply illusions... so I figure that's why you cannot cast them beforehand.
Unknown2005-03-30 15:43:49
That really has very little to do with what I mean. I'm not talking about the entire skillset but the actual 'weave illusion' skill itself.
Unknown2005-03-30 23:36:24
Which (other than advanced illusions) is easily the best skill in the set.
Shiri2005-03-30 23:39:30
No, just because it's the coolest doesn't mean it's the best. We're talking about combat usage.
Unknown2005-03-31 01:02:53
I never really understood how you could get a good anti illusions system set up (cause I never looked into it). I guess if you get rid of that option, its not that useful. Still, can't you just illusion Vitae to make Narsrim spore? Thats pretty good, no?

And in all other aspects, its an awsome skill.
Shiri2005-03-31 01:03:42
Heh, no, he has it state based now. (I think.) And arts can now spot illusions, and...Jello can explain the rest. whistling.gif

They just need it like Snakes in other games, illusion can be done before single slings, but after superslings... or something.
Unknown2005-03-31 04:21:19
You can detect illusions with a combat script in several ways. Some are simple and some are trickier, but none of the methods are really secret any more. Mostly, it's common sense.
Unknown2005-03-31 05:32:29
Basically, it takes 4 seconds to sling a rune. They can only illusion after the sling, not before it, and they have time for 2 illusions after the sling. So, once they sling, you have your system ignore any more illusioned slings that they do to try and mess you up. It's really not that hard, after 3-3.5 seconds you know that the next one will be real again.

For this reason illusions in other games can be done before balance as well as after, even though there's no arts skillset that makes it really obvious what is and isn't fake a fair part of the time. Still, lusternia has arts and only illusion after the act, so the skill is pretty useless against the better fighters.

This is a shame, since using illusions to try and screw with someone's system is one of the most complex and interesting parts of the fighting system in other games.
Unknown2005-03-31 05:34:49
Actually, that isn't an effective way to ignore illusions, Jello.

Also, you could never illusion before a dstab only after, however you could illusion before or after a bite. Can you illusion before a single sling?
Unknown2005-03-31 05:37:12
Well, in imperian you can illusion before a dstab.

And no, no illusions before single slings either.

weave illusion Jelaludin slings a cen at you!
sling cen at daevos

You weave your illusion.
2340h, 2150m, 3060e, 10p x-
You must regain equilibrium first.
2340h, 2150m, 3060e, 10p x-

If it was only before single slings then that would be good too I suppose.
Alger2005-03-31 07:46:47
with anti-illusions you just do checks. like one way for vitae/sporing is... if vitae your power goes to 0 so if vitae message and power != 0 then ignore line... not fool proof but not the only check you can put either.

Actually with discernment being available to everybody i think what jello asks is fair. Their illusion line limit is small too isnt it?

And if you have 2 or more slinging runes at you? biggrin.gif
Shiri2005-03-31 13:04:55
If indeed you mean three or more slinging runes, easy (probably), just make sure you're only ignoring slings from that person for the next 3 seconds.
But if the other two are illusioning runes coming from the first at odd times...:/ Wouldn't know what to do there. Generally people mean solo combat though.
Unknown2005-03-31 14:03:39
It isn't a reliable way to do it.

If you want to know the right way to ignore illusions, download the ACP and study it.
Unknown2005-03-31 18:03:27
Well, point is, it's easy enough without it being only after a move.

Are you complaining Mages don't have enough ways to kill people? In Imperian and Achaea you can illusion prior/after bite because Serps did not have 400 room demesne layered with 10 effects going off every 8 seconds. Do you seriously think any sane person would think that Mages's offense need anymore upgrading? Hey, let's give them diamondskin, ability to illusion before supersling, give them all instant kills, and heck, why not give them Lichdom too? I'm all for giving logical ideas or upgrades where upgrades are due, not when someone is just plainly asking to make their class the most overpowered in the game.
Unknown2005-03-31 18:18:40
I don't think illusion before a single sling would be a big deal sad.gif

Illusions are cool but they're like hardly worth using currently.

And, can someone who knows the "Right" way to identify illusions tell me? I'm too lazy to download and go through the acp tongue.gif

I think a lot of us feel that mages are already the most (over)powered class in the game.
