Im having a little trouble drawing a merian do to I dont know of any distinct traits that they have. As of now my merian that im drawing has more human traits and a little elfish traits can anyone think of something other then skin color a merian might have that set them apart?

Their ears are rather fan-like, from what I see, their hair is usually a very light shade of blonde or snow white, their fingers and toes tend to be webbed a bit, most seem to have almond eyes of some shade of bluish-green..

Merians can range from anything, as long as they have the ability to breathe underwater.

Because the arguement that they evolved out of body-hair is extremely sound - how many dolphin do you see with fin-pit hair?
Point in case.
Merians just seem to be anthro-dolphins, what with the rubbery blue skin and all. Hair only causes problems underwater, so the arguement that they evolved out of it is very sound.
And the only reason they would have hair is because they bred with a human, I believe. A Merian and a trill couldn't have a child. But a trill and a human could, and that half-breed could have a child with a merian.. *wander*

Unlike in real life though, the Merians didn't have time to evolve anything, I think. They didn't start as single-celled creatures and evolve into anthropomorphic dolphins, as you say, they appeared when a god broke himself into tiny little pieces. And I don't think Gods evolved or anything either, but that whole Cosmology thing confuses me.

Exactly. You , Erion, are not the creator. You cannot say how our characters are supposed to look. Yeah a merian with wings would be far fetched. But if we want a character with hair we can have hair.

If full breed is denoted by the ability to breathe water, and all merians have it, even if they're not totally pure blood, everyone can have hair and still call himself full breed.
