Taint. noun. 1) This really really cool toxic gas stuff that killed lots of people waaaay back before Estarra came. Infused with the essence of Kethuru, a soulless god. 2) A really really pathetic effect on an area, kind of general aura of nausea. Makes things look kinda dirty. Geomancers can barf it.

The Taint is a virus that spread itself airbone, capable of mutation thusly also being able to spread itself through other means. The Taint has the capacity fo infect every kind of tissue eltering entities from the very core, and is guilty of spreading collective physcosis on the groups of fully sentient things that it has touched/polluted.

First introduced to the Basin after the Cosmic Hope Expedition of the Holy Celestian Empire, the Taint was originally known to have contained the Soulless Kethuru's essence. Warping and rapidly evolving the creatures and areas it touched, it spread quickly through the Stone of Truth to the city of Magnagora, and additionally the forest Gloriana (now known as the Glomdoring). Fear of the Taint led to the commune Ackleberry severing itself from reality, today existing at an unknown point in space and time, along with the cities of Hallifax and Gaudiguch.

Today, though Kethuru's influence is gone from the Taint, it continues to promote change and mutation in those that it touches. The Viscanti, evolved from a variety of Tainted races, serve as a prime example of the Taint's power. The Cosmic Plane of Nil and Earth Elemental Plane, accessible primarily through Magnagora's Megalith of Doom, remain completely changed; the guilds of Magnagora today are centered around the protection and utilization of the powers of these Planes.
