Dating/courting in Lusternia is generally awkward and unsuccessful, especially for new characters or people who don't know anyone OOC. Trust me, I've spent a lot of time trying to marry someone in Achaea, unsuccessfully. Basically, I think it would be something good to try for your characters to message me with what they look for in a companion and I could try to match you with someone else I know. I'm especially interested in marrying off my many children. Anyways, give me some feedback. I'll probably make an ad soon so you can have some IC justification for enquiring about my services. Free of charge, of course.

New characters yes. But after a while, they get to know people OOC anyway if they want to. Out of curiousity, do your children want to marry in the first place? Or are you gonna drag them kicking and screaming to the altar?

Really? In achaea, I was walking by, and was proposed to because I was the same race as her. I accepted, she turned out to be really cool, and we got married. I don't play achaea any more, but I still talk to her on AIM
Asarnil2005-04-10 01:21:04
If you wanted to get married desperately, fast and with little to no questions on Achaea, you just wander past all the mud shallamese and you would get propositioned and/or proposed to about 20 times. Even if you were Mhaldorian.

Dragged to the altar.. Heh. My roleplay mom on Aetolia kept trying to do that, sending me letters bugging me to go get married and give her grandchildren, since I was her oldest son. Had some amusing arguments on the family channel and she kept throwing women at me that she randomly met. One time, she even forgot one of the girls names, while she was trying to pass her off to me. Nothing like an evil mother berating you for failing in your procreatative duty to let you know you found the right people to roleplay with.

Interesting service Eirene.. Typhus is getting on in his years, he might just answer.
Daganev2005-04-12 17:58:50
I've met who I've married OOC AFTER I met them IC. Much cooler that way, and less complicated.
Asarnil2005-04-12 18:00:37
I dunno, considering the lack of decent female Dracnari - the entire Ur'Guard guild has to either look at interbreeding or settle for sub-standard Dracnari who follow the Light or Foresty type things.
eirene2005-04-12 20:58:01
I won't drag my children to the altar, but I will nag at them because that's what mothers do, right? Anyways, remember to msg me.
Richter2005-04-12 21:00:11
Hmmm, matchmaker. Find Richter someone his age, maybe?
Likely that I'll marry Yuniko though. Too hard to find people that old, we agreed.
Anyone else have this problem?

Shush you. You turned me down way back when.

I'm forty and I'm beginning to have trouble finding people around Eirene's age, though Eirene's already married. The oldest generation is losing members now.
I'm forty fyi, only 3 years behind you, richter

Roul's 35 years old, but he's smitten with a woman who is 12 years his younger. =X
But he's a friggin demon. He's allowed.

Yeah... Sort of surprised a gold-digger hasn't run off with him yet.

Lusternian age should be nearly irrelevant for role-play purposes for everything but the events one could have been involved in or witnessed.
Yes, characters of a like age will tend to have more in common... but in fifty years the 30-year old will be 80; the 18-year-old will be 68; they'll both still look and feel (physically) twenty-ish; and they'll have way more in common than two thirty-year-olds just getting together for the first time.
People going OOC to act like aging was a big deal was always one of my pet peeves in Achaea, which uses the very same aging rules.
If one wonders how come there are older-looking NPCs wandering around the land, I suggest assuming this "forever young" blessing is one of the benefits of stepping through the Portal of Fate.

5.17 AGING IN LUSTERNIA
Although your character's age will increase by one year every Lusternian year, this is largely just a method by which you may judge how long ago a character was born. Age has no negative effects whatsoever, either on your character's health or appearance. Just another example of why life in Lusternia is better than so-called "real life"!

Demon, nothing. Even disregarding what I just said, for a man in a pre-industrial society to marry a woman 12 years his junior was perfectly ordinary and unremarkable.

Way to completely bring down and ruin a light-hearted thread. Nice going.
