I have a great idea. Lets get rid of mods.

What do they do? They edit out language. Uhh, once in a blue moon they stop bug info from being spread over forums (the one thing I agree with).

Other than that? Nothing.

Not trying to be a personal attack - its not against the mods themselves, but their job rather. While they are doing a great job with what their supposed to do, they have too little of a purpose, and that purpose pisses people off.

I don't come here to see a board flodded with the : censor : smily.
So why do I?

Honestly, we all konw the words, we can guess which one goes where, so why try to hide them?

I would like a gods oppinion on this please, if possible.

elryn raised a good point, I look at these forums at work and I don't particularly want my boss walking past and seeing a bunch of profanities splattered over my screen just because people can't take the time to write without swearing.

I use the words as much as anyone else, but not where it is inappropriate. I don't swear around kids, I swear very little around my mother and my partner's mother (maybe a bit old fashioned, but meh, they appreciate it), I don't swear around my grandparents and In don't swear on internet forums very often because I know some people do not appreciate it and I know, even though he will pick up the words himself, I don't want my little brother learning to swear rather than learning to make a coherant argument on reasonable terms.

Who has posted a bunch of profanities in a splatter on these forums?

Buler?... Anyone?... Anyone?...

Unknown2005-04-06 01:12:04
More than none is too many, I was being melodramatic with the word 'splatter'.
Daganev2005-04-06 01:14:56
Actually, I've personally censored and Deleteed up to 5 posts so far of such explitives.

The first one I tried to censor had too many icon in it, and the post wouldn't let me post that many smilies, so I had to get creative.

Theres also quite a few people with warning levels near 50% because of repepetive swearing.
Unknown2005-04-06 01:19:33
Off-topic, but is there a way to check your own warning levels daganev?
Shiri2005-04-06 01:20:34
Not as far as I'm aware.
Daganev2005-04-06 01:20:38
I have no idea. I didn't know they existed untill I was a moderator. But you get a message everytime your level goes up or down.
Shiri2005-04-06 01:21:41
Actually, you don't always. It is (apparently) optional to give a PM. The reason you have to give goes into some sort of moderating log which presumably the Divine/Admin can read.

I think, instead of using the censor smily, the mods should change them to humourous words. For example: "And then the censor.gif killed my pony!!" becomes "And then the cheese danish killed my pony!!" That way it's more fun to read the censored posts! tongue.gif

Heh that could be fun!
Richter2005-04-06 06:35:48
Good idea.
Daganev2005-04-06 06:37:55
If we are allowed, I'll do it. *cackle*
Lyren2005-04-06 09:40:48
There was one that Lisaera edited, I forget whose, and the little comment on the bottom said something like, "Profanities removed in favour of good old fashioned adjectives." - she'd replaced all the censored words with, well, good old fashioned adjectives.
Jack2005-04-06 09:48:35
I think that was a post of Visaeris', when a certain "F" word became "smashing".
Shiri2005-04-06 10:20:37
Heh. Make everyone sound like 1920s Brits if they swear. That'll show 'em. (Not in the rules though. :/)
Unknown2005-04-06 10:36:37
Yea, this is similar to what the Imperian mods do. They replace words with the most random things that come to mind, like bar fridge, or pistachio, and then bold and italicize it.
Elryn2005-04-06 13:42:29
Wouldn't this encourage profanity?
