Lesson Loss?

So I have been thinking on moving some characters from 1 guild in an area to another in the same area, or just making a new character...
That so called "Lesson Loss" from switching guilds.. is it really that bad? Would it be better to just make a new character in a guild I want to try and vape my old one?
I hope General is the place for this one.
Thanks for the help wub.gif

Did you buy credits on the character you want to move, and if so how much? Otherwise if you did not you are better off just making a new one if it matters that much to you.

It depends. Going from aquamancers to geomancers, for example, should be relatively painless. You should figure out which lesson pools you are using right now for the skills that you will have to forget and which lesson pools hold the skill you want to acquire. That determines how hard the lesson loss will be.

To and from Knight classes is too expensive.

Take a peek at Achaea's system. 10% loss.
Akraasiel2005-04-18 13:43:28
10% is good, 10% to forget, 10% to move down each rank of lesson types.

I just wish they had made it retroactive, Ak was like trans 8, now hes barely trans 1 altogether.

That would mean you jump from guild to guild (or go rogue) too often.

I believe its 8% lesson loss for a trans knight to switch considering they only lose their third skill and keep athletics and knighthood.

Knight-knight switches dont hurt, but to any other archetype, theyre reaaaal rough. Namely since none of the knight lesson pools match up at all with other archetypes (except their third pool, then you only get a partial pool change)

Tell me about it, I switched before the lesson reduction came into place from Aquamancer to Serenguard. Went from 5400 lessons down to 3000 lessons, it was brutal.
Singollo2005-04-18 19:06:43
I didn't lose a skillset since I switched from a guild with a compatible skill, but I retained 3200 lessons from two transskills.

Stole this from the old page (5th page in the link of my signature):

Let's see.. hopefully I'm not wrong.

The old way was:

1715 ---> (Forgetting skill leaving you at...) 1286 ---> 643 (Moving to new pool)

Now it is:

1715 ---> (Forgetting skill leaving you at...) 1372 ---> 960 (Moving to a new pool)

I wish they had reimbursed us after the changes.. I would have saved a censor.gif load of lessons sad.gif

To or from a knight guild?

I don't believe you.
Shiri2005-04-18 23:50:43
From Moondancers to Serenguard.
Ceres2005-04-19 01:10:21
1715 lessons to trans a skill.

3430 lessons to trans two skills.

He claims to have kept 3200?

1715 - lose 20% - 1372 - lose 30% - 960

960 by 2 makes 1920.

I've got 1152 lessons in Mysticism/Arcana after forgetting(back in the days of higher penalty).. 94 credits a skill to retrans, compared to 58 to retrans. Lucky dogs!

(Of course bought 800{+160} credits and I'll be able to trans everything but arts/magic/environment(gifted) and riding(inept) with more left over.)
Singollo2005-04-19 02:29:18
I was tired and sick when I posted that. I kept 1900, sorry.
Ceres2005-04-19 06:33:10
I was almost hoping you had been right, and there was some method I'd missed. sad.gif

Ah well.

I was thinking of moving my Moondancer to Hartstone actually, or maybe to the Celestians or Aquamancers. Though I can only imagine how pitiful a Faeling Celestian or Aquamancer would be...ouch.
Not to hijack my own thread but... Is it actualy possible to pvp without credits or Artifacts? Seriously?
And the only credits I have are the 70-something given to us characters that were around before OpenBeta ended... which I stupidly dumped into hexes after a talk with Nikua...man I regret that so much...
Thanks for the help all, does this clear anything up?

Without artifacts? Yes.

Without credits? Eh.. For PvP you really need three things: Attack skills, Utility/Support skills, and Cures. You're not going to get enough of the first two to have a real good chance in 1v1 without some sort of credits, regardless of their origin.
