The following are arguments I have IG topics. I'll let you guess which ones I as a player, currently hold to believe to be the original intent of the designers, and not of any IG charachters including Dynara and Yudhe.
Modern Taint:
1. The taint is a the ultimate evolutionary force that was caused by the soulless, and who's nature is to make Destruction a helpfull and important part of Creation. By seemingly making things more ugly and self obsessed, the Taint helps the basin discover that, that those things they held most retched are infact the things that make you stronger. Thus, the Soulless are attempting to show the Elder gods that they (the soulless) are good things to have around and should not be sealed up away from creation, and should be allowed to continue to eat what they like, when they like and embraced as the brothers they are. Thus, Taint infact makes everything stronger because it is showing the basin the truth that Yudhe always knew, that Creation and Destruction must co-exist.
2. The taint is a retchid and evil thing, that makes people turn white into black and black into white. As the taint overcomes something, it finds the aspects that are the worst, most vile and contemptious aspects and saves them, while destroying everthing that is good and right. Pain becomes pleasure, because pleasure is eliminated. All that was ever right and True with the world becomes twisted and destroyed, for it is the nature of the Soulless to destroy, and Truth is the most powerfull creative force, for in creating it destroys falsehood. The darkness that is the Taint hides and destroys everything that should be seen, and so, the Light must set it aside and destroy it wherever it is seen so that one day, Truth can be set free, and creation can grow to its highest hights without worry of setbacks and destruction.
3. Taint is the result of pent up anguish and dispair of the soulless in the void, the waste caused by the Soulless is like radioctivity, breaking apart each aspect of a thing untill it reaches an equilibrium of what it was, and what it is not. However, once something becomes tainted, and survives all aspects fo destruction are lost from it, and it instead becomes 'just another' aesthetic in the world of Lusternia.

Have to agree with Ialie on this one. If the original intent of the designers was moral ambivalence towards the taint, then Nil wouldn't be called Nil, its guardians wouldn't be Nihilists, it wouldn't be populated with demons, ruled by beings that uphold gluttony, lust, et al., and wouldn't be called taint!

The answer: 4. The designers wanted to make something evil that would be interesting to play and so left it open to be interpreted in various ways based on which clues you decide to read and which charachters in the game you ask.
