I’m bored, and, with people shouting “F’ai” earlier… and other people shouting “That means “I have! Idiots!” I realized.. both sides were wrong

"Dor Glom!" means "Have Mercy!"
and
"F'ai Glomdoring" means "I have no mercy"

so.. when everyone says “F’ai” means “I have”.. they’re wrong

“F’ai” = not necessarily “I” but an identifier of the self. It’s obviously that because its “Glomdoring” Forest.
“ing” = no or none, because the words “have” and “mercy” are in the statement “Dor Glom!”

So… then you come down to Glom and Dor… which, it becomes somewhat difficult to determine which means which… and I’ve thought of arguments both ways.. so.. yeah.. I’d rather an admin answer that one

Well, Glomdoring means Merciless, or, without Mercy, so, "Glomdoring Forest" means "Forest without Mercy"

"F'ai Glomdoring" means "I have no mercy" Its what Rowena said when she killed the Fae, after they were saying "Dor Glom!" "Have mercy!'

Glomdoring means 'forest without mercy', not just without mercy.

Read the histories.. Rowena says "F'ai Glomdoring!" and it means "I have no mercy"

That doesn't make sense unless "ing" means without AND "forest". Oh! Maybe "dor" means have and "glom" means mercy, and ptting the "dor" after the "glom" means you don't have mercy, whereas putting it before means you do. So then the "ing" indicates a forest. Except then "F'ai Glomdoring" means "I am a forest without mercy" or something. I don't think "Glomdoring" has the implication of a forest by itself, because of that...

I think you'll find elfen doesn't easily have a one-to-one translation into common, and words can have more fluid meanings that shift with context. Heck, even within human languages that's true; it'd be more true with entirely other races.

Glomdoring = No mercy
F'ai = I have
Forest = Forest

Therefore:
F'ai Glomdoring = I have no mercy
Glomdoring Forest = Forest without mercy

Makes sense, but HELP GLOMDORING disagrees. Could be just an oversight/typo though.

The problem is, Shamarah, you're trying to match it one for one, when its probably doesn't work that way.

Glomdoring probably means Merciless, a single word comprised of "Have" "none" and "Mercy"

so, in direct translation, "F'ai Glomdoring" would be "I merciless" but, you always need to bend translations, so, it becomes "I have no mercy"

D'or means "You have" but in English the 'you' is not spoken in the imperative form. "ai" is the first person conjugation of "have," and "or" is the second person conjugation. Thus:

"F'ai" I have
"D'or" You have
"Glom" mercy
"doring" appears to make things negative
"Glomdoring" no mercy

Unless...

Glom = Mercy/Merciless
F'ai = I
D'or = Have. (If suffixed with 'ing' it means not having, or without)
Forest = Forest

Hence:

F'ai Glomdoring = I have not Mercy/I am merciless

And

D'or Glom = Have Mercy

And

Glomdoring Forest = Forest without Mercy/Merciless forest

Glom = Mercy, and dor means to have, ing means a lack of. Glomdoring means a lack of mercy, but in the context of using Glomdoring, it's "Merciless Forest". As someone pointed out, it's not exactly word-to-word. F'ai means "I have". "F'ai Glomdoring" means basically "I have lack mercy!"

Psh, I like mine better because it fits more perfectly.

And, when we say "The Glomdoring", Forest is implied.
