I just got Guild Wars on Thursday and I have to admit it's a lot of fun; I like the tactical element with the skills and such.
The game is much more fun to play in groups though, so I was wondering if anyone else plays. If you do, post your name here. Mine's Shamarah Naralias.

I thought about getting it. Does it have a monthly subscription fee?
Silvanus2005-04-30 22:39:16
I thought about buying it. Does that count?
Shamarah2005-04-30 22:39:41
Nope. That's one of the things I love about it. Only MMORPG I know of that doesn't have one.
And the other thing I love about it is that there's a level cap of 20 to avoid pointless bashing treadmills.

I should be getting it soon, whats the average mental age of the player?
Aajen2005-04-30 23:08:49
I have it too, it's a great game. Like an online only Diablo 2, well worth the price compared to other MMORPG's that charge monthly fees. Best part about it is that all the zones are instanced so I don't have to deal with the idiots and morons that seem to infest mmorpgs very much. I'm Aajen Bandito (I should not watch westerns before naming my characters...)
Shamarah2005-05-01 00:03:43
Your character seems to be undergoing spontaneous nonexistence.
Unknown2005-05-01 00:09:26
Is it in open play now? I couldn't be bothered dealing with the whole beta event period thing. I have been wanting to get it.
Shamarah2005-05-01 00:39:45
Yeah, opened Thurs.
Unknown2005-05-01 00:48:25
Oooer. I think I'll be goin to the shops soon.
EDIT: We should start a Lusternia Guild Wars guild.

I have made a mesmer. I'm not sure what that whole choice between rp and pvp at the start was about, but I chose rp. My chars name is Laneth Green.
EDIT: I've added Shamrah and Aajen to my friends list.

I got a monkey!! Going to start another character soon though, maybe a rebuild of my monk, not overly liking the Mo/Me mix . I like my first one I had in the World Preview, Mo/R.
My name is usually Annelia or Mandarb as the first, the last is at random And cause I'm still playing around with characters PM for my name.

I made Laneth Green a Me/Mo. I'm thinking of going down the Smiting path for my monk powers, thought I'm not too sure.
What would you suggest?

I usually go more into the healing prayers/divine.. Smiting I like though would love to get a war monk, maybe when I have some more skills and way better armor
You can change your skills around to suit the missions/quests though, so I change my build every mission . Just play with what you have and run around killing a few things with henchies in the adventure bit, you'll find what works good in different situations..
I'm jealous of those that could do all this through the BWE

How good is it? I've thought about getting it but unfortunatly in the past i've been severly disappointed by online games. I'm pretty sad i've over like 700 comp games some unopened. I get so bored after like the first three days that I never play them again, so if i'm going to invest home time into this game i'd like to know how good it actually is. Also are the people who play it at least halfway intelligent? I played some online game and I got so tired of all the LOL cheaterz, dude im so gunna whip ur ass w/my leet dude of powerkicking ass. So sick of 20 year olds with the mindset of a churlish five year old

People seem to be above the average online gaming intelligence level. As for if you will enjoy it, well, I dunno. I do!. I love the difficulty of it and the way you can customize your characters skills so you're never really like anyone else.
Unknown2005-05-03 15:25:32
How customizable is it? Also whats the going price $50?
Unknown2005-05-04 01:46:57
It was 80 something here in Aus, don't know about the US.
It is customizable for a few reasons, but the main ones I am talking about have to do with character professions. You can take a primary profession (warrior, monk, ranger, elementalist, mesmer, necromancer) which gives you a profession specific attribute (eg, the Mesmer gets fast casting if the primary profession) and then you can take any of those professions as a secondary. So, for example, a Mesmer combined with an Elementalist brings the fast casting hexing abilities of the Mesmer together with the slower but very powerful spells of the Elementalist.
Combined with that, you are restricted to using only eight of your skills at any one time (out of a possible 150ish available to each combination) and these are only changeable in a town or outpost. This restricted number of skills really can change how a battle can go, especially in the Arena/pvp environment which this game is very suited to.

The combat (at least PvP) type combat is often compared to Magic the Gathering for two reasons: One, there's like 150 skills but you can only have 8 available to you at a time, like it's your deck. This also makes the skill combinations very customizable, just like a deck. Two, There's alot of skills like "For every hex on them, target takes 50 Damage" or like "If the next skill target uses is a spell, they take 150 damage" or "For 10 seconds, every skill target uses takes twice as long to recharge" just like a lot of the MTG cards, condition based and whatnot. The PvP is very in-depth for a grafical mmorpg (though nowhere near that of IRE games, because that'd be insane). Oh and the PvE is okay, but who cares about that?
Annelia2005-05-04 08:02:45
I care about PvE its not just hack and slash, you have got to think. Sure you could run into a pack of charr and hope the party monk saves your ass
