Lame skills

Well...this isn't going to do anything, I don't intend for any of this to be taken into account or anything, but I'm interested to see what everyone else thinks about skills that could have been so much...well...cooler in their execution. It would be unbalanced and all sorts, so I'm not really serious, but it would be cool to see! For example...

Drawdown. Whee. I make a triangle with my hands. What it COULD have been is turned into Moonform, where you get possessed with the moon just like Stag/Crowform, turn silver-skinned, start shining with intense silver light, and so forth. Luckily moonburst makes up for it. (Incidentally, I don't CARE how much symbolism I'm ruining with that one. tongue.gif)

Nejii frames the moon in his hands and stands stock still for a moment, as the ambient light gradually dims. Suddenly an intense silver ray appears to shoot from the moon to his body, and as he lowers his hands his skin turns silver and he appears to radiate an eldritch light.

Will'o'the wisp. Okay, everyone knows willowisps are cool in mythology. They feed off of people's fear after luring them into bogs and so on and so forth. And I while it isn't in the mythology, in other fantasy things they electrocute you too. So why the heck are they so lame here? It should deal electric damage whenever it sees

As you pant in terror, a will'o'wisp appears to grow in size, bobbing malevolently. It circles you twice, emitting a low hum, before darting at you, sending an agonising shock into your body.

Jellies. Well...I mean, jellyfish are pretty cool, but they're highly pathetic. And these ones are a little lame. Zoology doesn't really work for the Aquamancers anyway, they should have more neat watery things. I mean, a two second stun. If that wasn't so important in combat, I'd say "fear," sarcastically. But it is, so I won't. Anyway, this would make it neater:

Shiri points an open palm at you, and a thick stream of blue energy slams into your chest. As the ray blackens, you begin to cough up water, choking on the fluid that begins to fill your lungs.

Geomancers in general. Now they bug me. Too much gas, not enough earth. I still hold that they should have tainted Aquamancers and had like, algae and stuff, because Earth is too cool an element to waste on poisonous fumes and so forth. (So is Aeromancy, so don't get any ideas.) But there're a couple of gaseous powers here, so they should both be replaced.

Athana places a hand on the floor, and the earth begins to rumble and shake. Pebbles and rocks strewn across the ground turn to mud and congeal into a larger mass before suddenly disappearing from sight, emerging a moment later underneath you as a series of diamond-tough stalagtites.

Veonira taps the butt of her staff on the ground, spins it around, and slams the head firmly into the soil. Suddenly you stumble, and you look down to see your feet mired in thick mud.

Anyone else? ninja.gif

On the same token, crappy skills should be a little more...erm...crappy-looking?

ABJURE COSMICFIRE:
QUOTE
Xavius closes his eyes in concentration and cries out your name to the firmament. A dark shadow passes briefly overhead and you are stuck by a massive foam ball falling from the heavens.
Shiri2005-05-06 22:51:32
No no no. Crappy skills should be cool looking as well. biggrin.gif

Well Shiri, on the point of the Geomancers skills, you have no idea how long ago i was talking about those two, but if they ever got implemented, they'd be overpowered really. The Stalagmites one would probably either impale someone or make it so if you dont have levitation enchant, you take passive damage in that room/demesne, the bog one would slow down room exits which would be like rubble that they have now, so no point, or make it so they have to writhe to move. Though i agree they would totally kick ass rp wise, they should get Diamond skin first happy.gif

That's really interesting actually. The ritual of Drawing Down the Moon is traditionally one in which the High Priestess invokes the Goddess as symbolised by the moon. So, you're much closer to the mark with that suggestion than you might think.

Tenqual: I'm sure there's potential for them to be overpowered, I just think the gas is kinda dull and stuff.

Quidgyboo: I'm not sure I understand you, but it sounds like you're agreeing with me, so okay!

Nature Curse, I imagine as more of a traditional hex, rather than being all point and pokey with the athame

Reaching into a pouch at his side Laneth pulls out a handful of knuckle bones and begins to rub them between his hands. As he whispers words of power, the bones begin to glow with a sickly green nimbus which quickly engulfs you as you feel your aura weaken and your life force drip away

Spiritbond Wolf should give you something other than courage in my opinion. A faster movement speed, keener instincs, i dunno, but something else would rock.

Releasing a howl to your wolf-kin, your senses double as the wolf takes hold.

Lash would just rock if it set up an etheric link between yourself and the target.

Reaching out with your Ethereal hands you tear a hole in the auric body of Thorgal and form a bridge between your soul and his

A sudden surge of energy rushes through your Etheric link to Thorgal and you feel your mana replenish

etcetera

http://www.themystica.com/mystica/articles...n_the_moon.html should explain it if you're interested.
Shiri2005-05-07 00:55:30
Your mana doesn't replenish, your health does.

But yes! (Although lash is cool anyway, so it doesn't need much changing, hmm. But curse could use more than it does. Druidry curse is better though.)

Maybe Steal can look a tad bit better? I mean, now it is just plain... well, plain.

With a simple glare, you thrust your hands towards Gwynevere as a chaotic mass of shadows writhe from you and ensnare her in a dark embrace. She glows in a nimbus of black lights, as the shadows expell from her, bringing her shadow to your side.
Shiri2005-05-07 01:10:05
What does it look like now?

Like this:

You thrust an athame dagger into the ground near Gwynevere, then as you withdraw your weapon from the ground, her shadow comes with it.
Shiri2005-05-07 01:18:13
...oh.

Well, okay. Yeah, let's have yours. biggrin.gif

EDIT: Oh, and in lieu of some of the lamer Fae, we'd have little elemental nature spirits to symbolise that the ethereal is connected to all the elements. Like, we'd have tiny little mephits.

A mephit ceases its circling flight to draw itself into a hover before drawing back its head and unleashing a blast of steam and flickering flames.
A galeb-duhr claps its tiny hands, and the runestone changes in mid-flight to a shower of worthless gravel.
A weirdling gurgles as its watery body reforms into a misty cloud in front of Murphy's eyes, causing his blow to go wildly amiss.
Jasper2005-05-07 03:09:58
Maybe we can have some of the Night Fae appear differently? Because they appear just like Moondancer Fae.

Or maybe, just have the Avatar Fae appearance all special for both Guilds?
Shiri2005-05-07 03:30:05
Agreed, and what are you on about? Respectively.

On about, Shiri?
Shiri2005-05-07 03:31:52
...British slang, perhaps.

"What are you talking about?" With the Avatar Fae appearance thing. huh.gif They DO appear different for both guilds. A maiden doesn't look the same as a dog. :/

I mean when they are summoned. All the Moondancer Fae appear in a poof of sparkles, as do the Night Fae. I was thinking that the Moon Avatar Fae and the Night Aspect Fae be summoned differently, meaning it would look different. Because, our regular Fae are summoned different.
Shiri2005-05-07 03:43:13
OH. The summoning, not the appearance. Yeah, sure, that too.
Narsrim2005-05-07 03:51:04
One thing we could steal from Imperian would be the idea of the Night/Moon Fae being completely different (just having the same effect) so you summon a small goblin-like thingie whereas I'd summon a brownie, etc.
