Well, since apparently broadcast won't listen AND speak onto higher planes, what would be interesting is if the Planes were actually considered transplanar, so to speak. Right now, because everyone has planar (even those that don't have like teleport, the broadcasting skill before which gives you the ability to speak to, what, Cosmic?) planes are just like seperate areas that take slightly more effort to get to. What would be interesting is if the MAXIMUM transmission length was the next plane along. It would make communication relays necessary and so forth, and just generally make things more interesting. As it is the only difference is that you have to be at a nexus to change areas, and you can't teleport as easily. :/ The skill'd have to use reshuffling or something to get around this, but.
Shamarah2005-05-09 22:09:13
It sounds really cool, but it'd get annoying really, really fast.
Shiri2005-05-09 22:10:21
Well, maybe. It's just really too plain as is. Better ideas are also fine, that was just what I could come up with.
Shamarah2005-05-09 22:24:14
Make things be garbled or something.
Falasin2005-05-09 22:31:21
Meh, limiting it to one plane distance wouldn't do anything, people could just use messages, like they do now if it can't reach. Personally I like the idea of having a sort of transmission station in each city, while there you can send tell to and recieve tells from anyone at any plane as well as the same thing with shouts, it would kind of act as an amplifier, or a booster station for those who need to ability to reach out to the outer planes without the trouble of messages to and from.
Unknown2005-05-09 22:34:33
It's already a hastle to try and communicate with prime as is.. This is a horrible idea.

It's hardly a hassle. In fact, it's entirely too easy. So much so that the planes have no real effect on communication at all.

I like.
Shiri2005-05-09 22:38:50
That would be if all the communication powers were removed, though, right? Otherwise it just makes it even EASIER.

Uh.. Maybe you're more awesome than me, but trying to keep in touch with more than just one or two people is nigh impossible.
When I say "communicate" I mean keep up to date on happenings on prime.
Shiri2005-05-09 22:54:36
...um...THAT is incredibly easy. I'm not sure how you're having problems with it. There SHOULD be more difficulty, otherwise it's not so much a "plane" as a "house down the street."
But there's none.
But there's none.

Well I don't know how it is in Serenwilde, but there's very few people with the planar skills required to be heard on Astral. I can think of.. hrm.. 5 or so.
Shiri2005-05-09 23:49:59
That'll improve as Glomdoring gets more experienced. Here, everyone and their brother has it.
Shamarah2005-05-10 00:41:55
Yeah, most people have it, it's only Expert Planar so...

That's not really likely, at least for the forseeable future. Glomdoring has very few credit-heavy people.
And even so, it's still a bad idea. Communication shouldn't be a hassle
Shiri2005-05-10 01:24:55
It should if you're on a different plane of existence. Why are the skills even there, anyway?
And it will happen, just not immediately. Maybe when you're all sorted out and stop sucking. (Not saying it's your fault, it's inevitable.)

A different plane of existence should be very hard to communicate to and from. Otherwise it makes having different planes meaningless, as they may as well just be different areas. I also think they should modify more things on each plane (like, each plane has a certain passive ability: health regen, unavoidable damage (vastly more without the skill to survive), random afflictions (nothing important) or curing (Celestia/Nil?)), but that's a whole different topic.

Yeah, that's another thing. Surviving on the planes is entirely too easy. I feel that Lusternia's planar emphasis would mean a lot more if they were really really unnatural and different to the Prime. As it is, they all have wonderfully described environs, but not a whole lot to make it really matter, which detracts from the magic of it somewhat.
Sylphas2005-05-10 04:10:58
Well, I'd like for survival to not be hard, if you have the skill (although I think they should more evenly distribute them, instead of having all the survival skills in the first half of the skill), but have different things that make them a bit different. Maybe have non-mercy regen not function unless you're aligned with the plane, for example.
Overall, the emphasis on other planes doesn't really have a special feel. I like them, but it just feels like they're rather bland. Communication is an easy step to change that.

(The first part) that is what I mean, yes. The redistribution. ALthough even that's fairly meaningless because tonnes of people have transcendant planar, but there you have it.
...yes, I agree, generally.
