Making roads self-evident

This is a very minor thing, but would it be possible to have a CONFIG option that turns off the (road) bit in room titles?

For examples, when walking you see "Estelbar Path. (road).", but flying above the same room you only see "Flying above Estelbar Path."

Why is this spelt out for road environments as opposed to others? You don't see "The Moonhart Mother Tree. (forest)." or "The Necropolis Library. (tainted urban).". I can't really see any advantage to having this added either, and it screws up my Zmud maps big time.

Could we please have an option to turn it off, like we can with plants in the room?

If you're on any kind of program that can make those things, you can probably ALSO just use "#sub" or something to translate "Estelbar Path. (road)." to "Estelbar Path" anyway, can't you? To alleviate the zMap problems, at any rate.

Well on a totally unrelated note but sorta the same area, can we have it so if your walking along a Road, path, highway, something generally paved, you can move another room before you get the, Now now, dont be so hasty?

Good idea, Tenqual. Though it wouldn't really affect Faelings since we don't walk. tongue.gif

And I'll try it Shiri... here's hoping!

Faelings don't walk? Whatever do they do when some kindergarten bully plucks their wings off?
Elryn2005-05-15 02:51:17
You can't pull the wings off a Faeling.

Edit: Ok, so its a fairly moot point. Faelings don't actually fly (ie, we still have to swim if we want to cross a river without soaring into the sky). But I still wish we did actually hover!

Anyway, Tenqual's idea is still a good one.

It's good for newbies who use the roads to find things and don't want to have to read the description of the room every time etc.

Hmm good points raised!

Regarding scripting around the problem via zMud:
have a look at the #TAG command. It allows you to manually "tell" the mapper what the room name is.

Example, you could do a trigger like:
#TR {^(*)~(road~)$} {#TAG name {%1}}
which would effectively cause zMud to strip the (road) part from any room name.

Of course, it'll only work if you already had that trigger while creating your map, or you'll have to manually erase the (road) parts from your map's room names.

Edited to disconfuzzle.

Taking away the 'now now not so hasty idea' would allow people to use scripts to insantly walk from one place to another, because they're all connected by highways and roads. No?
Elryn2005-05-21 00:32:11
No, I believe Tenqual meant you get an extra move per second before you get that message. Not that it would disappear entirely.
