So just what does the totem change in the announce mean? I didn't understand it being new to the totem scene.

You regenerate at carved totems if you have spiritbonded trees.

It used to be that you only regained health in the presence of saplings, elder, and mature trees when you spiritbond tree but when they were turned to totems you didnt. Now you do even when they are totems

You can now return to saplings, and other trees of that nature.

If you can return to it, does that mean you can bond to a tree that isn't a totem yet and keep it from getting chopped?

I don't know about keeping it from being chopped, but that is my asumption on totem return

It has nothing to do with totem return...

It only means that you regen in the presence of Carved Totems. It doesn't affect Totem return, just the Secondary unspecialised skill Totems.

The skill is called Totemreturn.

You cannot bond to a sapling and then return to it.

I think SPIRITBOND TREE, should allow you to regenerate in the presence of Dryad Trees as well.
