Racial Customs/Traditions and whatnot

Back to Ideas.

It would be a great idea for like, certain emotes and whatnot for certain races. For example, Merians could have the ability to leap out of the water. Not actually leap out, but a visual emote, giving that likeness. It would be cool. Maybe Aslarans can shake their manes, or wing preening for the flyin' types. It'd be neat. Then, maybe certain customs among the different races. Eg.: I am Merian, so I have ideas for them. Maybe we have some sort of day where we honor the creation of the seas, or we mourn the fall of Old Celest. I don't know what else. My brain is fried, so other ideas would rock.

racial emotes... that's a brand new idea doh.gif

That's a really good idea. Mind if I expand on that idea a small bit?

Twill: Being that they are of the sky and descendants of the air itself (so to speak) perhaps occasionally, an emote will surface. Example: Samual's wings flutter for a moment before going still.

Faeling: All through out historical mythology, the fae have held a small bit of mystery and child-like innocense about them. (Unless they were of the lesser courts or of the outer Tir'Na'Nog, in which they were usually cruel fae and treated as if less than worthy of the name fae) Even in Lusternia, the faeling race is a race of mystery and captivating interest. They are one of the races that have no delineation from any god or goddess, according to the historical tomes kept on the website. So perhaps something of this sort may be adequate. Example: Mai zips in/flies in/flutters in from the east in a blur of fae light.

Merian: Like the poster of this string proposed, they are a race based on the waters. Like a shamanic culture, merians are steadfast in the common belief that the water holds some sort of probable symbolic meaning to them, if not an actual physical allure. It would make sense to have them emote "leaping" or "climbing out of" water for a racial emote.

Dwarves: The dwarf has been a symbol of strength and master craftsmanship in the areas of war and black smithing. You will not find a fantasy book where the dwarf is not leery of human or elven societies. Globally and regionally, dwarves tend to live in high or very low places, such as in the depths of towering mountains or in the gaping belly of some sort of sub-terrain kingdom. The term "waddles" comes to mind when I think of a dwarf, but I'm sure if a dwarf actually heard me say they "waddled" when they moved, I'd be kissing the blunt end of a battle hammer. *hums*

Elfen: Similar to the Elven race (if not a swing-off of them), the elfen seem to emenate an aura of sage-like understanding of the world about them. With this, and their innate and uncanny ability to be intune with nature, the Elfen partake of an ethereal beauty all their own. I'm not sure what the emote would be for them. Any ideas anyone?

Dracnari: Probably the vicious and the most agile creatures on Lusternia, the dracnari are known for their wings and the draconic resemblances that are physically apparent in their features. I would think the racial emote for them would be something to do with their wings.

Any one have any ideas what they might be?

except dracnaris don't have wings, they're more lizardish than dragonish
Tatiana2005-05-20 00:27:49
hmm i was thinking maybe for dracnari, you could have an emote about their tails? Something like, Siliar swishes his tail about languidly.
I can't think of one yet for Elfen though
Gwylifar2005-05-20 00:50:35
Didn't Stagar already get himself a tailwag emote for dracnari? Gods know he does it often enough.

As for traditions, a bunch of us are working quite hard on some aslaran traditions and cultural details. Watch the next few bardics for a few pieces of that, just a taste.

As a Taurian, I really want to be able to snort. Not snort spores, just...snort. Snort in disgust, in acknowledgement, in annoyance...its very bullish to snort! But I can't, because it asks me what I want to snort...
Shiri2005-05-20 03:03:59
Heh. That was awesome early on, people trying to snort arrogantly like in Achaea got an amusing surprise. tongue.gif

I've seen 'em in Achaea and whatnot, so I thought it'd be a good idea. I think Marina has some really good ideas. I am not too creative in stuff like this, but I have a few.

Loboshigaru: Something with the tail, or possibly a howl specifically for them.

Krokani: Being large and unintelligent, and of a single eye, rubbing their eye would be interesting, or a grunt. Lame, I know.

Tae'Dae: They deserve a powerful growl or some other neat stuff like that.

I can't come up with anymore, but I hope my two sovereigns is good enough.
Gwylifar2005-05-20 23:48:11
For a krokani, peering with a single eye. That's what the ones in the Castle Djarrakh do sometimes.

You guys do know that we already have some racial emotes, right? Like PROWL for aslaran... my favorite. wub.gif Lisaera

Dracnari already have blowsmoke, aslarans have prowl, loboshigaru have warngrowl, tae'dae have bearnuzzle, mugwump have catchfly...

I love the idea.

Doesn't really suit Faelings now though.
Sekreh2005-05-21 16:36:45
*snort*

We Dracnari do NOT have wings! Ew, wings are reserved for wimpy races like the faelings and trill.

And um, I take serious objection to the phrase "...a burst of fae light" because what is fae light, and how would someone seeing it know it was fae light.

But I like the idea of racial entry/exit messages, or perhaps at level 80 or Titan/Demigod being able to set our own, like the divine.
