Silk

Ever since the opening of the Glomdoring Commune, prices of silk have skyrocketed. It seems to me the cause of this is that the only source of spinnerets in the world is the Glomdoring Forest (well, there are a couple others, but they LOWER silk production, instead of increasing it). Also, the lack of spiders elsewhere in the world makes the Tosha monestary quest quite difficult if you are an enemy of Glomdoring, or just unwanted there. I strongly think there needs to be a place where spiders can be found outside of the Glomdoring forest, both to help with silk prices (which will keep getting higher and higher with no source of spinnerets), and to allow anyone the ability to perform the Tosha monestary quest.

Just a hopeful thought...

SOLUTION: Don't be enemied to glomdoring.
Niara2005-05-21 19:59:38
Dyr, please, first think and then write...

Being enemy or not won't change the shortage of silk.
Kaileigh2005-05-21 20:42:39
silk

But I'm just a comm whore. I know someone will come and say they have alot more than that though..

Note: I bought all of these when I was pretty new and had tailoring.

I think I may have done the silk comm thing once.

80 really isn't all that much. Need to have a decent stock of 500+ any given commodity needed by your trade just incase usually, at least if you have a shop and the like

Niara, please, first think then write...

If your not a glom enemy, you can... LEGASP GO AND GET SOME SPINNERETTES FROM GLOM!!! THEN THERES NEW SILK! doh.gif

Seems like a solution to me, adds more silk and reduces the shortage.

Also solves the Tosha problem.

The point isn't if one person is or isn't an enemy. The point is whether too many people can't get spiders to keep the supplies up. Because a lot of people are enemies, and others aren't so keen on bashing inside a commune to whom they might not be terribly friendly or even morally opposed even if they're not enemied. Worrying about one person's enemy status is missing the forest for a single tree.
Shorlen2005-05-22 00:11:29
Silk in the Seren has gone from 30 gold each to 85 gold each in just one year. Not a good sign. And those who were enemies to the Glom Forest before the commune are automatically enemies to the commune. And many, many of us, for RP reasons, do not want to be in the forest. I don't understand why that one forest has to hold the world's supply of spiders, a creature I'd think would be rather common. *shrugs*
Kaileigh2005-05-22 01:15:36
Because spiders kinda represent them? If spiders popped up in Seren wouldn't they (serens) kinda freak out?
Elryn2005-05-22 01:23:35
I don't think Serenwilde would worry about spiders appearing. It wouldn't solve the problem, however - access to Serenwilde is just as restricted as to Glomdoring.

I agree with the suggestions for spiders appearing elsewhere. Glomdoring can keep their spider area since it is part of their culture now (I imagine), but it seems reasonable to expect a new spider domain will arrive in a neutral area.

On a related note, will the starving deer remain in Glomdoring? I know the quests for raising/killing crow and hart will change to rebalance, but I think it is reasonable to expect that now Glomdoring is a commune they don't get to have representations of their enemies wandering around.
Unknown2005-05-22 01:33:13
Well, before rowean, what if people wanted to be anti seren but still get elixers? Its a price to pay...

And werent tailoring comms always hard to find?
Shiri2005-05-22 01:34:26
Yes, but then the new spider-sheep-cow-whatever thing came in where if you bring the stuff in not only does it up production later but provides a small immediate boost, and I think they upped the rate tailoring comms, silver and steel were produced at so they weren't as incredibly rare anyway.

EDIT: Also, we had Dairuchi before. I don't know how much difficulty Magnagorans are having with this, but if you own both of the silk mines, you have a silk monopoly on our hands.

I don't think it's the spiders affecting it as much as that is. Eh...
Unknown2005-05-22 01:38:31
Yeah, yer pwolly witttte.

But I mean, the obvious solution is, if you can get into the trees - Go to glomdoring, and catch yerself some silk. You can sneak in and out in the trees, we will never know.

Elryn2005-05-22 01:40:52
Um, I don't think its quite that easy.
Unknown2005-05-22 01:41:25
Why not?
Shiri2005-05-22 01:52:39
Not to mention that you lucky Glooms seem to have no wind in your forest now, not like us poor Seren. angry.gif
Elryn2005-05-22 01:54:01
Because all enemies or implied enemies are likely to be caught, interrogated and probably killed. Why should someone have to risk that just so they can compete in their tradeskill? Is that fair?

If this monopoly of the silk producing quests is what's causing the shortage, then I think it should be looked at.

Edit: And lets not be silly, entering an enemy city/commune for a relatively long length of time is very difficult. Aside from totems and guards, there are citizens to avoid both wandering past and having an observant eye, not to mention it is rather challenging to know exactly what is demesne'd and hence being watched. Oh, and I thought some forestal guards attacked in the trees? If not, they should.
Unknown2005-05-22 01:56:52
Yeah your right. Nevermind.

However, if your really want to, it is possible. And easier now, if theres no wind.

They don't attack the trees per se if they're anything like Frost Hags - however they WILL follow targets into the trees or the air, which is highly annoying as it's impossible to get the obnoxious things to land.

And I don't think there's a huge shortage, it's just looking tougher for us Seren to get it, in minor part due to the spinnerets and in larger part due to Magnagora. We just have to do that economic sabotage thing and buy out all their shops of silk and stuff, I think.
Unknown2005-05-22 03:22:59
Well on the topic of this, if you've actually noticed, the only two naturally silk producing Villages are both owned by Magnagora. Solution, go take one when they revolt... well only Dairuchi really since no one cept the GLoms and Mags can speak Undead. It's kinda obvious that silk would skyrocket since you have to get the other places with spinnerets to make them produce it. If you want silk so bad, walk through Angkrag or Dairuchi to the comm shop, or you can walk through Glom to get it, either way if your enemied, your gonna get hurt. Ohh and the whole enemied to places, why dont you just pay yer fine and get unenemied? A lil gold 'ere is a lil price to pay to get a good supply of needed comms. happy.gif Ohh and i'd just like to point out, you guys think you have it bad with your comms...
