If you ever meet me irl, you'll find that I'm pretty nice, almost always happy, and generally nothing like I am in game, and little of what I'm like on the forums.
I have a dillema though. Since Richter is "evil" and once in a while I do a good job at it, I 1. Feel bad when I rip someone a new one, and 2. Know that people will think the person on the forums is just as much of a as he is in game.
For example, last night, Murphy was asking about herbs on market. Said something about needing it bad or whatnot. I said this isn't the place for those kinds of requests (it was amusing in context), and I get Rauros telling me "HELP HALLMONITORS ".
That doesn't make any sense.
So, following true Richter form, I tore him a new one. He ended up telling me to shut the up, he said that he was sorry he ever said anything, and I told him that if he spoke to me again, I'd rip his spine out of his throat.
And they say -Murphy- is the bad one in the family.
Afterwards though, -I- felt bad. Certainly, I didn't make this guy's day. If we were all doing a tabletop game or something, that would have been cool, and we'd have all had a good laugh after the game. But the internet is so impersonal...
So, here's the question. How do people that seriously play evil people, that are nice irl, deal with it?
...or are all the jerks in game really that way?

Being an arsehole IG is great for venting.

Become evil in real life. It solves soooo many moral dilemas.
Shiri2005-05-23 15:12:43
I find it helps if you play evil as cold and harsh rather than violent and outgoing. At least then you can pretend you're being "aloof" and stuff rather than "evil" per se, even though you could well be. I'm not going to be egotistical enough to call myself nice, but I know I prefer not to think of myself as anything but, so if I try to act out the "frosty" side of evil rather than the "flammable" side I have an easier time.
Then again I'm not sure if there's any point in that or if I'm just a mental mess, but to each his own.

Nah... Richter's pretty much pure evil, at random times. I'll post the history someday, it'll make sense then.
See, I'll use Bricriu as an example. Some days I hate talking to her. She's a coldhearted little person, but the time I spoke to her on the phone, she wasn't half bad.
And here I was, thinking she was just a jerk (unless I'm missing something), when it was just her character.

Don't be mean to Briclet just because she is short - she can't help it!

I've met Richter. Sorry to disappoint, but he just didn't come across as evil. Want to know evil? Try out Mhaldor in Achaea. I haven't met anyone in Lusternia that comes across with that sort of attitude. Arrogant, cold and unyielding. Evil people don't say much. They just 'do' it. Examples are...Khoraji, Xenomorph or Cain, when he was a Naga. They don't stand around and socialize ic. They don't have demonic 'teddy bear' (come on, seriously?) pets, nor do they spend their time trying to mate and have children.
This is NOT to say that all of Magnagora act this way. Daevos comes close to what 'evil' might be. Murphy as well, I suppose. But everyone knows that the Mags are only greedy little taintworms that have no regard for anyone but themselves!

Keep up with the times, Woman. Stabbington has his old body back, pre-capture.
As for greedy little worms...well, no need to get nasty. It's fairly obvious which commune they wriggle in.
Terenas2005-05-23 17:39:47
I have to agree that Daevos is perhaps the closest it comes to being evil, more along the line of an evil but silent type. Reminds me of Khorajii on Achaea and to some lesser extent, Xenomorph.
I don't see Richter as being evil, just a merchant.

A merchant who doesn't like competition very much.

That was a joke right.
Terenas2005-05-23 17:49:36
Andelas was a good example of evil, his actions spoke for themselves. Just not many bother to RP evil through actions rather than words.
Asarnil2005-05-23 17:50:54
Mhaldor was about as evil as a teddy bear tea party. What they had were 13 year old thugs who thought they were evil. Well except for when Yig was there at least.
In fact, if you wanted evil from another IRE mud, Stavenn on Imperian pulled it off pretty well for a short period of time, but even they farked it up pretty fast.

Malicia2005-05-23 17:58:56
Nah, not all of them. Sure, people like Timux were retards, but Khoraji played the part well. Ladydeath, Kyene (?) , Wulfen, etc... Oh well!
I could rp evil. Piece of cake. Who Christina (me!) is has little to do with Malicia if I'm playing a part. Some people can't tell the difference.

See though, that's the problem Malicia. I've been slipping, and so whenever I put the effort into it, like the conversation with Rauros, I feel bad.
I'm making an attempt to revitalize who I was supposed to be, but was having problems with it, hence the thread.

You're not evil, Eiru.

Terenas2005-05-23 18:44:06
Yeah, he stole Jadryga's swords and decided to give them back. That's not evil!
Torak2005-05-23 18:47:37
You say Cain and Xeno were evil? That is a joke, they went around killing people and swearing alot..oh and don't forget abusing bugs. They were far from evil and more pricks then anything. If you consider them evil then you must consider Halios evil..
