The (Un)Official Rules of The Soulless Game

Your goal is simple: survival. Lusternia isn't a big enough place for Elders and Soulless, and one of you has to go. But who is a Soulless and who is an Elder? Rather than wait to be stabbed in the back, you have gathered your fellow Divine and proposed to settle this in a more democratic way.

The rules are simple:

There are four types of Gods: Elder, Soulless, Seer, and Guardian. The number of each is determined by the number of Gods playing. For example, a game of 12 Gods might consist of 3 Soulless, 1 Guardian, 1 Seer and 7 Elders.

If at any time the Soulless are equal or greater in number than non-Soulless, they win. If all the Soulless are killed, the Elders win.

At the beginning of the game and every night, the Soulless will confer amongst each other and decide on one God to kill. The next morning, that God will be revealed to have been killed and will be out of the game.

At the end of every day, the Gods (Elders and Soulless) will vote for one God to be executed. Whomever is voted is killed and out of the game.

The role of a Seer is to find out who everyone is. A Seer is on the side of the Elders and wins if all the Soulless are killed. Every night, a Seer may select one God and learn of their role. She is free to use that information however she wishes, but if a Seer is killed by the Soulless, she cannot reveal who she saw that night to the public.

The role of a Guardian is to protect the Elders from the Soulless. A Guardian is on the side of the Elders and wins if all the Soulless are killed. Every night, a Guardian may select one God to protect other than themselves. She cannot choose the same person twice in a row. Whomever is protected by a Guardian is safe from the Soulless for that night. If the Soulless choose a person that is protected, they lose the chance to kill someone that night.

Alternate Rules and Variations

Mortal Kombat: In this variation, players take the role of a mortal. The object is the same: survival. However, there are more sides than just the two of Elders and Soulless.

At the beginning of the game, players are assigned an affiliation: Celest, Magnagora, Serenwilde, or Glomdoring.

Celest and Magnagora are similar to Soulless. Every night, each side choose one mortal to kill. Celest wins by having an equal or greater number than non-Celestians and all Magnagorans killed. Vice versa for Magnagorans.

Serenwilde is similar to the Elders. If all the Celestians, Magnagorians, and Glomdorians are killed, Serenwilde wins.

Glomdoring plays a special role. There is only one Glomdorian, and is similar to a lone wolf. Each night, the Glomdorian chooses one person to kill, similar to Celest and Magnagora. The Glomdorian wins if all the Serens are killed, regardless of how many Celest and Magnagorans are still alive.

Only Serenwilde gets any Seers and Guardians. However, Seers will see the lone Glomdorian as a Seren.

This variant is best suited for a large game (20 or more), for the simple fact that up to 3 people can be killed each night.

If you are interested in playing, it uses the same IRC as the #lusternia chatroom. Please feel free to post comments and suggestions. I was hoping to have this as an alternative to the other Soulless game but much faster.

How long do the days/nights last in the IRC version?
Rauros2005-05-24 06:36:35
Since ideally all the players will be in the room at the same time, I expect each day/night to last no more than 10 minutes each, sometimes less. The whole game should be over in no more than an hour or two, depending on the size of the game.

Sounds cool but I doubt I could play very often because of time differences.

*wail* I can't get onto IRC for some reason, which is weird because it used to work fine. But for the past few weeks it hasn't worked, I've tried two separate clients just to be sure *mutter* And let them try and reconnect for ages, as well.

it's easier keeping it in the forums :/
