Sea wolves, dragon turtles, champions, oh my!

Well, the battle between the sea wolves and dragon turtles has always struck me as very cool, and I hear the champions on ethereal fight as well.

But, it would be even cooler if players could get involved in this actual war. The inner sea and sea of despair become open PvP for the duration of the conflict, and the various mobiles run around attacking each other and enemies of their sides, and players can attack them. In terms of balance, the players would probably not be a deciding factor most of the time, but it would be very cool happy.gif

Yeah. The players shouldn't be able to affect it too much (they should prepare their sides, to affect the outcome). But that would be cool.

Same on eth, of course.

What's this quest on Ethereal?
Shiri2005-05-25 04:30:43
The Daughters of Night/Ladies of the Silver Light have a war, winner can do a quest to get a sceptre and have Faethorn be on their side.
Richter2005-05-25 13:28:55
Ah, I've only heard parts of that.

It would be nice to have a little more player interaction as well in some quests. I think the "take thing A to place B and have the system make some cool things happen" is overrated sometimes.

Sounds awesome(is it spelt Awsome or Awesome?).

Awesome.

While in theory I agree more player involvement is a good thing, what would be the point of this change?

If players have little effect on the outcome, and they can bash the quest-related creatures normally... what would be gained by coding a complex system to involve players in a pre-determined outcome?

It'd be fun.
Lisaera2005-05-25 16:46:47
PK is open on Ethereal anyway, and in the Seas you can be attacked without repercussions if you're an enemy of the things controlling that sea (which you will be if you've participated in the quest at all).
Unknown2005-05-25 17:49:03
But you can't do it while being spammed by fighting dragon turtles and sea wolves sad.gif
Daganev2005-05-25 20:34:42
Actually that would be really cool

During the month of the battle, the rooms have those room emotes that shows the fight with an equal number of each side dieng, so people can cheer or whatnot.

Make it spam deathsense when the wolves and turtles fight! *Cough*

That would be so cool. A way of activating improved deathsense to see what creatures die to whom. I'd love it for the voyeur factor.

Unfortunately, it would also be rather a large advantage. sad.gif

I've been trying to do a little RP thing about that very thing.... trying to commune with the totem spirit Snake to extend my deathsense to include the adders. Not really sure where to proceed, though.
Unknown2005-05-27 22:16:33
(Serenwilde): A frost hag says, "ZOMG taht n00b daevos is back!"
(Serenwilde): OneOfTheThreePeopleThatCare says, "Where was that?"
A frost hag has been slain by the might of Daevos.
You see the death occur at "Estelbar Path."
(Serenwilde): You say, "There's your answer."

If only I stayed... and then we could have created my massive totem to Snake that I was thinking about.
Daganev2005-05-28 00:11:17
I don't think the deathsense idea was to extend to players, it would more look like this.

A seawolf has been slain by a dragon turtle.

You rush out of the way as a turtle and seawolf bite at eachother's necks.
Unknown2005-05-28 04:40:52
The only problem with the Deathsight for Denizens, it'd give up -any- chance of surprise, since you'd know, who and where, whomever is attacking. happy.gif
Elryn2005-05-28 13:26:24
Yeah, thats what I meant by the advantage.

It would be so wonderful though. And the problem about giving away too much information could be diffused by giving the death type messages... for example:

A monstrous lobstrosity has bled to death from hundreds of tiny splinters embedded in his flesh.
A mugwump pilgrim has been vaporized by the light of Mother Moon.
