Spam reduction

I've been thinking, Lusternia is obviously geared (intentionally or not I'm not sure) towards group combat, which is very spammy in this kind of engine. So, it would be an ambitious project, but perhaps steps code wise could be taken to reduce spam in group combat?

The most significant one being demesnes. Perhaps instead of seeing the effect hit everyone, you would see something like...

You are slammed into the earth by the evil Geomancer demesne, this description is three lines long!
Your allies are effected similiarly.


Of course, that last line would be different, better written to put it simply. But when I get hit with a demesne it's pretty spammy to begin with, but seeing the other 8 people I'm with it and all similiar effects as well fills a couple pages every 10 seconds and makes the already massive spam that much worse. If demesne spam in groups was cut down that could change a lot. It wouldn't even have to work off of the ally list or anything really, since the odds are much more in favor that if you are hit by it, everyone else being hit by it is on your side, allied or not. The defenders in the demesne would still get spammed, but demesne gives enough of an advantage that I don't think that would be too big of a deal.

i agree there jello. Seeing a whole group of people getting hit by 5 affects in a row EACH....its worse than the contagion spam that used to happen.

Blastron's version sounds pretty good to me, though it might require a change to the way the timers or effects are coded. But just listing everyone in the one message who gets slammed would be awesome.

I agree.

I would also love it if warriors conking each other wouldn't be QUITE so...visual. (And if the three parts - attack type (hack up etc.), damage type (light bruise to the head) and affliction type (you are winded) would go on three seperate lines so my bloody autoparry could work, but that's something else. (But it would decrease spam too, because you could gag the first bit or something...I guess.)

The funkiest spam I ever affected was when I was defending Delport, but I had over 200 snowballs in my inv.

When I got killed?

All of them drop out of me one by one.

#gag is vastly inferior to some of the things suggested for reasons I don't really need to go into, we all know that. Thanks for being your usual helpful self though Tuek.

#GAG, #SUB, #GAGBLOCK, #GAGON, #GAGOFF, and Trigger States (Within Lines, Pattern, and Reparse), is all you'll EVER need, and there is no better way, and there is no reason it will not work, nor is there any reason it is inferior.

If you gag it, it'll be harder for you to tell which of your allies are effected by what, as opposed to having it in one message. If you actually gag and sub the text around to create that one message yourself, it would be so much better if the game did that automatically as most people can't do that with their front end. Which is the biggest reason using #gag is inferior, not everyone can do it.

Nah, thats not NEARLY as fun. Nothing beats having a snowstorm when you kill someone. biggrin.gif

I personally hate gagging stuff, because it periodically just screws up everything I have (like, gag everything but the prompt), its a lot of trouble, and I really dont think it would be hard to code "A, B, and C are hit by icefloe" or whatever.

I am somewhat proud of myself for this one...
Make a skill in discipline where you can -focus player- and you only see what that player does, and what happens to him or her, you of course see what happens to you as well, that essentially will cut out all the spam of team combat, and make it so that it is only as much as 1 on 1...

then youll just have

harry, barry, garry, george got hit by overpowered demesne.

well youll have to make something for repeating names though and im sure thats wrong some where but yeah something like that

Just because you use zmud doesn't mean you can do something like that though.
