I was thinking that there should be a enchanterwho, forgerwho, etc command. It could spit out name, city(for RP reasons) and rank (based on level without actually saying skill level, neonate, master, etc) I think it would make it a lot easier to find say someone to sew you a great robe rather than having to ask on city/market/whatever channel every couple of minutes.
Richter2005-05-31 06:29:17
I wish we had something like this, and that I could list or unlist myself. I'd hate to get tells constantly because people need a trans artist/forger at times when I'm trying to work/have a digital life.
Unknown2005-05-31 06:35:39
I think what we have is enough; ads and the market channel.

There was a simple version of this in Achaea - crafterwho - which spit out all forgers, jewelers, and tailors currently in the realms. You could also do "crafterwho j" to see all jewelers, and such. The code's probably still there, or at least, easily portable/modifyable (you can only be one of those in Lust, where in Achaea, you could be all three).
However, I personally hate the idea of having this in the game. It should be up to individuals to advertise themselves, or up to cities/communes to make resources for their citizens, and make such information available.
Unknown2005-05-31 15:47:15
That idea would make ads absolete, or at least 90% of them. I don't really have an opinion here, it would have both its up and downsides.
And it's blacksmith. Forger is someone who makes false documents.
EDIT: Transcendent, woohoo.

Congrats Cuber.
And I think that the market is just fine, I'm having no problems with finding customers, and I like the "voluntary response" thing: if I ask for an enchanter, and I don't get a response, that's because I'm assuming nobody wants to enchant for me (or there are no enchanters about).

Here's what this looked like last time it was suggested, just for comparison.
Bau2005-05-31 22:35:32
It would certainly be useful, and limit some of this...
Market: Seren says, "Looking for an untainted alchemist."
Market: Glom says, "Fool, there are no tainted alchemists."
Market: Seren says, "Fine, looking for a non-Glomdorian alchemist."
Market: Beldaran says, "Trans alchemist."
Market: Seren says, "You're still tainted."
Market: Random says, "HELP MARKET."
Market: Random2 says, "HELP HALLMONITOR."
Not that I've seen it quite like that yet, but I'm just biding my time till it happens.

Also, we already have sparwho, why wouldn't the crafter option be viable? You -could- just take yourself off it, I imagine.

I don't think the issue is that it isn't viable, but rahter, that the Admins don't want it.
Gwylifar2005-06-01 02:31:40
Or just haven't gotten around to doing it, while they were busy doing the seven billion other things we asked for.
Bau2005-06-01 03:51:05
Heh, we do kind of have an extensive wish list.
Unknown2005-06-01 04:49:55
it's like a christmas wishlist
Unknown2005-06-01 10:34:06
Except with the wonderful hardworking staff, who have given up the past year or so's worth of sleep to code almost non-stop, here to implement stuff lightning quick, every other day's Christmas!
Thank You all!
Thank You all!

On a side note, the people that keep saying "no mags, no taint" etc, need to shut the hell up.
And I'm all for this idea. Kind of. Which makes me really not -all- for it. But I'm sure they have more impiortant things to code.

Sylphas2005-06-01 17:59:47
Yes, because we'd all rather say it three times in tells then do it all at once on market.

Isn't it easier for people to just say, "Seeking a Celestine Enchanter" or "Seeking a Serenwilder Alchemist"? Seems much less offensive, and much more to the point, to me...
Bau2005-06-03 06:25:07
They like being offensive. Or else they'd just say it plainly.
Ixchilgal2005-06-03 06:40:23
First of all, it's not offensive to have standards. I'm not bashing guys when I don't want to have sex with them - but my standards include tits, and squatting to pee.
Secondly, speaking plainly usually -is- the rude way.

Bau2005-06-03 06:46:52
It's offensive to hear 'no taint, no taint, no taint, no seren scum' etc over and over. It really doesn't incline me to want to help Serens, and I'm only a tailor.
