ok so i was thinking yet again, it would be really cool if you could have gladator type arena fights against mobs, so say like you have a ffa but with random monsters running around also, the strength of the monsters could be based off the average level of all the players in the ffa and the number of the could them could be twice the ammount of arena participents? i dunno i think this would bring the game some new and interesting ffa's rather then the semi boring ones we have now.
Kayde2005-05-31 02:50:40
Well considering I helped him come up with this idea, i think it's a good one, but I would also like to see just player vs monster arena fights, where the monsters they fight are random based on their level and the number of monsters would be set by the player (or culture people). Like real gladiator fights back in Rome.
I would also like to se the ability to bet on arena fights implemented and even perhaps a cash prize for the winners based on a percentage of the amount of bets taken in. This way more people would be interesting in watching arena fights as well participating in them and would allow for another avenue of income for the city from the arena. (say 10% of the money taken in from bets would go to the winner of the fight, whatever the odds were for the winners of the bet and the rest would go to the culture ministry coffers.)

Neat idea, would need super powerful units though, or hoards of regulars .
Marcalo2005-05-31 03:06:22
ya i was thinking it be based on your level and the number of mobs you fought, so say at level 80 you want to fight one mob ok you get a manifestation of dreaming, or if you wanted two, 2 slightly overpowered astral mobs, but so they always = to about the same might as the manifestation, or what ever the hardest to kill mob is
Morik2005-05-31 03:08:16
Do you get experience? Do you get gold? if so, then high level people would just use this for bashing.
Unknown2005-05-31 03:09:01
Good idea, but it'll probably be tough to implement. Stuff like Glomdoring and the two new villages were feasible because a template already exists (Serenwilde and other villages). Having a new arena event is a completely different animal, probably coding from scratch. Then again, I could be wrong.
Marcalo2005-05-31 03:09:43
no experiance, and i could see the mobs dropping gold that would be fine, but it would be more to compliment hte betting idea kayde said
Elryn2005-05-31 03:10:56
Aye, I love this idea... I want the Serenwilde arena to be filled with beasties. Gnehehe!
Marcalo2005-05-31 03:12:18
i was thinking like city specific monsters like tainted beasts or what ever for mag, something forestry for the communes, somthing lightly for celest i dunno about mobs, heck even use pre-existing ones

nah, being able to bash manifestations isn't exactly a difficult task with a little running. You'd just have to find a second person there to keep summoning you away after every hit and .. bewm, insta 1k gold. Arena's aren't meant to /generate/ money from the inside..
Nice idea, if you remove the gold and experience. That way it can't be abused for anything other than target practice. Which is what the arena is for.
Marcalo2005-05-31 03:17:36
i like soloing mani's they are fun i liked soloing 6 astral mobs, but anyway ya i can see how the gold being generated would be abused, or make it so that the mobs will always drop less then it cost you to enter, so that way it works a little like the combat spars?
Acrune2005-05-31 03:17:54
It'd probably be a monster to implement. I like the idea, but I dont think its really doable. For some level 80's, a manifestation isn't bad. For me, I'd die in one hit. Not many set fights like that would be very interesting.
So that leaves the event coordinator picking what creatures go in there, but then you'd have people just seeing what they were able to kill, without actually having to risk getting killed by them.

Marcalo2005-05-31 03:22:03
thats why i suggested it be like based off your level so like ok me at level 80 i can solo a mani, well then throw 2 in, but the monster idea i think would work best in a ffa setting so have players vs player vs monsters
Acrune2005-05-31 03:28:11
I am level 80. A manifestation would hand me my @$$. There is a huge variation on the ability to survive stuff within levels.
Kayde2005-05-31 03:30:21
Well again, there would be no exp or gold gain, unless through the betting idea i suggested at the top of the thread.
As for numbers, what I was thinking was in the duel aspect, the player or coordinator would set the number of monsters you fought, and depending on your level, it would generate monsters that would add up to just above your level.
For example: I'm level 77. Say I want to fight a single monster, it would throw at me say a level 85 monster. Say i want to fight 85 monsters, it would through at 85 level one monsters. I think it would be quite fun to see if I could solo 85 finks at once, but maybe I'm strange.

heh, well it would need some formulating but it could work if people are willing to put in the effort to make it work, and if it does get put in i can see murphy trying to kill 1000 gnomes just to say he can.......

You people are your manipulating of ideas for personal profit and crap . It's for entertainment damnit!
I'd rather see 5 people working as a team to take down slews of enemies with chariots and freaky flying things than, say, Daevos and Tuek fighting at a stalemate for 3 hours .

Heh, my thoughts exactly, except if the gods didn't want to code in 'arena-only' mobs (which while REALLY cool would take a lot of time) they could use existing mobs.
Richter2005-05-31 06:54:28
They would have to be level limted or something, otherwise the powerbashers or people like Narsrim would jump in and destroy everything.
On a side note, I think I saw someone mention serenwilde arena.
