I can't decide which mage guild to go... I want to be a dwarf fighting out of demense. I hopefully will use Illusions + Elementalism + Aquamancy/geomancy... My question is, since I will have to be killing with damage and afflictions (I prolly wont trans any skills) which guild would be best for me?

You could be a geomancer and chasm people with your tankiness, although the terrain would still have to consist of taint.

Also, Aquas have awesome staff damage.

Edit: Dwarves don't make very good mages...but if that's what you want to RP, go for it!
Shryke2005-06-06 02:23:18
Why do dwarves make bad mages? Tanky+okay mana=fine riiight?
Athana2005-06-06 02:41:09
they have low int..and now an equilibrium penalty
Daganev2005-06-06 02:47:27
INT not only affects mana but how much damage you do.

It isn't Achaea... unfortunately doh.gif

With 12 intelegence, your attack is going to be pretty poor, especially now that they have the slower equilibrium.

Also, why out of demesne? Seems kind of silly to just not use the skills that mage-dom seems to be centered around. huh.gif
Geb2005-06-07 22:18:52
Perhaps he is taking into consideration that he may not always have the luxury of being in his demesne?
Terenas2005-06-07 22:30:50
What? You don't flood and meld everywhere you go? What's the point of 400 room-wide demesne then! tongue.gif
Archthron2005-06-08 18:31:26
Err, or maybe Shryke means as in being in a demesne and fighting people. Like how you would attack out of Magnagora if that was your base of fighting.

"I want to be a dwarf fighting out of demense." Only logical interpretation of that statement is that he wants to be able to fight well outside of his demesne. So he is asking which mage guild would make it easier for him to accomplish that feat.
Ceren2005-06-08 20:40:59
either one, a mage outside of a demesne hardly depends on aquamancy/geomancy anyway, except for staff
Shryke2005-06-09 01:59:52
well, since dwarves are nerfed anyway, I'll have to figure something else out... I was trying to figure out how to use illusions/ basica afflictions to tie an opponent down long enough to kill him with a staff, now obviously that would favor a aqua seeing as how geos staff sucks now...
Athana2005-06-09 02:04:17
If you're going to use runes as a main skill probably go with a race with quick balance
Ceren2005-06-09 02:10:55
aslarans would probably be a pretty good choice as they have both fast balance and equilibrium and more intelligence than dwarves
Shryke2005-06-09 02:26:50
until balances are modified quick balance isn't very usefull... I doubt an aslaran could stand up to an opponent that attacked with damage, or even afflictions, with the herb disadvantage they are very very fragile, too fragile I think
Binjo2005-06-09 08:41:05
I'd say to just pick a tanky race that doesn't have a disadvantage that'd hurt you as far as runes/staff goes, so basically pick a race that has high CON, and no eq or balance disadvantages. From what I can think of with these new changes those races would be: Krokani, Loboshigaru, Taurian.

Out of those three Loboshigru and Taurian look the best. Both of those races have decent strength so you'll be able to (if you have credits) shieldstun for decent lengths.

That's my suggestion, although I don't know if it'll be worth it, depends on how much damage a 10 int. staff will do. If it's too little then anyone who is good at curing your rune afflictions won't have anything to fear from you.

The thing is, unlike a warrior, its near impossible for a mage to be tanky and have a good offense at the same time. If you pick a tanky race your staff will be crap, if you pick a powerful race you end up dying in two hits. the closest thing to to a tanky/power race would be lucidian, but they're int isn't THAT great, and they have a couple glaring weaknesses
Shamarah2005-06-10 01:11:47
I'd say Geo. If you have only 12 int then your staff is going to be crap, so you'll want to have chasm to kill with.
