I've thought it over, and what I like most about other IRE games is that I can log on, see an enemy of mine outside of their city, run over and go fight them 1v1. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes they get away. But very rarely do 50 other people teleport to them/summon you and kill you in a huge group. Lusternia's emphasis on group PvP with such a spammy engine to begin with really detracts from the potential of the game.
So, I think something the admin should put on their list of things to do is cut down on group PvP and promote 1v1 PvP. Some ways to do this that I would suggest...
The planar summon nerf was a good start, but demense summon and wisp should be reworked in my opinion.
More bashing areas on prime. Hunting someone on astral is like trying to navigate a subway system that doesn't keep on schedule. Plus, the creatures are so strong there that people who aren't trans resilience or of the right race/class combination can't really bash there anyway, so only the strongest players go there. More prime bashing areas that are past the newbie level but below the astral level would I think be good.
Someone will probably say, if you want to fight 1on1, go to the arena. But arena fighting just isn't the same. I would even consider having the avenger system include incentives for beating someone 1v1 over in a team, with the logic that the avenger likes honorable combat. Of course, he can't always tell every tiny detail of every situation, but it's obvious what kind of combat was more likely honorable.
I love Lusternia's story, but especially as someone who uses a manual system, I just can't appreciate 3 page a second spam while in group combat in a mud. Whenever I start playing Lusternia again for a period of time, it's because of the RP and story, and whenever I go away for a couple weeks it's because I can't get a 1v1 fight with anyone who can't kill me with one hand tied behind their back, and I realize that all of the great PvP stuff in the game is pointless because I'd be best off using nothing but boulderblast.

I think you make a very good point, there should be some method to reduce spam when in group combat. Maybe have something that removes or gags messages from people who are on your ally list who are attacking people on your enemy list?
Shryke2005-06-09 04:47:43
It seems reasonable enough, but maybe next time you want to fight someone, tell the rest of your city/commune to let you have a shot at him her... I'm sure they would listen. If you can't find someone alone, maybe challenge someone..?
Nyla2005-06-09 04:49:53
In avalon there used to be a concentrate skill which let you focus on one person's actions and your own.
Ooooo put it in discipline and give it some sort of willpower drain.

95% of the game doesn't accept a challenge if they're not 100% sure they can win, though.

Shryke2005-06-09 04:51:19
Bah, I suggested that in the ideas thread -look for spam reduction- I guess in a way ninjaed..?

This is my take on it. Achaea had pk rules. About 10-20 damn pages long. Here, there's a bit more freedom. More control is granted to the player. If you mess with someone you just might have to deal with members from that person's organization who will teleport/rescue in to assist. In Achaea, if you're attacked, you issue. You can look to the mark system but more than likely a person will opt to take it to the admin to ensure that you are punished well. I'd much rather have the people looking out for their own rather than have a pvp system ruled by issues and issuewhores.
Basically, a player shouldn't expect a duel when he/she raids. If you're looking to duel, challenge a person. If you're raiding and 2-200 people show up to remove you, what's wrong with that? That's just an example though.

You're really missing the point, the fact that PvP on prime only occurs during raids (I.E. group fighting or at best hit mobiles and run before you get summoned into guards) is the entire problem.
Erion2005-06-09 05:11:56
What, do you want us to just randomly pick fights in the streets of Old Celest? For no reason?
"Hey bob, how was dinner in Glom?"
"Good, and your breakfast in mag?"
"Great!"
"Cool!"
*kill*

Moving pvp off prime was the aim of the PK systems we do have in place now, and I'm happy for those. I think things are fine as they are, except that if there was a way to reduce spam I wouldn't turn it down.

I hated that attitude so much in Achaea.
Malicia2005-06-09 05:53:53
Yeah. Couldn't do anything there. Lusternia is awesome.

Oh.
My.
God.
I had that idea about 20 hours ago, except I couldn't get to the forums then, and I've only just remember. Damn ninja. I also thought of one other thing it could do, but yeah. I thought Discipline with will/endurance drain too.
Unknown2005-06-09 12:16:51
There need to be a moreviable place for PK off prime. Seren and Glom can fight on Ethereal... everyone can fight on astrall. However, Geomancers aren't gunna try to PK aquas on water, are they?
I think more planes would be very cool, and would help this issue.

Wouldn't it be safer to have a skill that allows you to ignore the actions of certain people? That way, you could ignore the combat spam about your allies. If you focus only on yourself and another, is it wise to ignore the hurt the rest of the team is raining down on you?
As for a Magnagora/Celest battle... just give Celest a vested interest in questing the Catacombs, and an equal footing. Tada, Faethorn v2.0. *shudder*

Torak2005-06-09 13:47:21
Alot of times when say Amaru asks me to fight or whatever I say no, why? Because its pointless and I have 0 chance of success..but generally most others I will. People value their exp too much ..I hate it too. Hell whats worse is when someone agrees to duel then teams you when you are.
