I just realized what's missing in Lusternia

Back to Common Grounds.

We have no North of Thera, Crystal Leaf Inn, or World Tree / Spring that is a place to rez people.

When you are looking for adventure, be it random chatting, roleplay, random fight (that might actually be 1on1), you go to one of those places in the other games. A crossroads to the rest of the activities in the game, or a public place with food and drink on neutral territory, or the spot where people fight (and get resurrected for less exp loss).

People probably said at one point that it was good Lusternia had none of those things, maybe. But it's those things that literally bring people together and become a source of activity of all types. I really wish we had at least one area along those lines in Lusternia.

It's also those things which encourage a lack of roleplay by making people see others as players, not characters in an IC sense who are their enemies or otherwise.

If there were ways around this, sure.

With no PK rules (practically), it's highly unlikely you'll get Celestians engaged to Magnagorans etc. As for the PvP, you've already got people who regularly try to kill each other in the same clan and stuff and those into PvP talk oocly on the forums, so I doubt it would change things there.

I used to like NoT and all that, but at the same time you also became buddybuddy with the enemy. Here you hang out at the megalith or whatnot, and you develop closer ties to your citymates and still hate on the enemy

I don't think the nexus factor is really why that is. Just look at Celest and Glomdoring.
Amaru2005-06-12 00:48:40
Places like NoT have the potential to be great.

In Achaea I always used to stand there and have faceoffs, usually ending in good old duels.

But we'd need Gods to routinely stand there or something, just to make sure no idiots see it as an excuse to socialise with their enemy and ruin the atmosphere.
Unknown2005-06-12 00:56:41
It would be cool to have an NPC city like Delos (Achaea references not appreciated, I know) spring up over time around the Portal of Fate, or the top of the Peak. Think about all the pilgrims. Who wouldn't want to set up a pleasant economic base on the great Peak? Bob could build a shopping mall!!! With all the artifacts and everything of that sort right outside the Portal. It could even be made non-PK! wub.gif

Safe zones are exactly the kind of thing we want to avoid except at the Portal of Fate, it inevitably promotes one or both of two things:

1) people running to safe rooms to avoid people them
2) socializing with the enemy
Amaru2005-06-12 01:00:57
If it was a centre for people, it'd need easy access.

I like the idea of a 'teleport (somewhere else)' as well as the teleport nexus command, some centre of society or other.

Edit: And NEVER saferooms.
Gwylifar2005-06-12 01:02:29
I think the lack of these things is a benefit, myself.

But you can also use Deepnight.

(Richter, you going to send me a check or direct deposit?)

There's some kind of university or something like that in aetherways, isn't there? Sounds like a good neutral place. Manses seem to be suited perfectly for that kind of activity.

The Akashic Records? Yeah, I thought that could stand to see more use.
Amaru2005-06-12 01:13:57
It'd need to be somewhere central, like NoT was, where people would be drawn to hang out for some other reason than socialising. You can't make enemies want to be with each other, there has to be some reason for them to be pressed together.
Shamarah2005-06-12 01:14:44
Maybe a competitive minigame where people can win power for their nexus somehow? I dunno.
Unknown2005-06-12 01:14:55
Yes, that's it. I went there the other time, it was empty. People don't seem to use these manses, wonder why. And now you want a place to hang out. Look around! smile.gif
Hajamin2005-06-12 01:15:35
For some reason I have this sneaking suspicion this was by design....

Not even something competitive... just like... a room which you're immune to food/sleep inside. Or if you wait in it for a little while, it slowly charges your health/mana to 10% above max. Something small like that, then make it in the centre of some well-designed well-roleplayed complex with shops, and make it teleportable to. Done!
Unknown2005-06-12 01:37:19
I'm sure it was by design Hajamin, but I personally don't like the way it seems to have worked out. Adding in a public gathering place wouldn't remove the factor of nexuses bringing people in their cities together, since everyone will always teleport nexus, and no one will get married to people from enemy organizations when there is no deterrant at all to stop the random murders we all take part in at one point or another.

That said, if you want the social and influence aspect of Lusternia to be bigger, there have to be gatherings. I would like to suggest an inn at the foot of avechna's peak where all of the pilgrims can gather. Mobiles to influence, food to buy, bar fights. Good stuff.

That's an interesting idea.
Sekreh2005-06-12 02:07:51
I like the inn concept. That actually makes RP sense.
