Ackleberry and the Snugglebunny Stereotype.

Often I have asked, “Why do people automatically assume Ackleberry is or will be the “Snugglebunny paradise.” I have been told, “Oh, well they are furrikin” or “That is how they are portrayed in the histories.”

“Really” I asked, “They are portrayed in the histories this way? Honestly?”

Let us explore the role of Ackleberry in the history.

Ackleberry I believed severed itself from reality to save their Great Spirits from the taint. Many of their fighters armed themselves and prepared to fight for their home. I remember that.

I also remember Lolly Pringle going for Ladantine, rushing at him with all his anger and causing him to fall into the waters below.

The Narrator of much of the histories, a furrikin tells us the tail of the taint, I don’t understand with all the things Lolly Pringle faced how they are viewed as being “Snugglebunnies”

There was even a furrikin Vernal God, Kiakoda and it seems that she was the most powerful vernal gold.

The only conclusion that I can come to is that many people are using otherworldly stereotypes from other games, stories or whatever that don’t nessisarily apply to Lusternia to explain the behavior and mindset of a commune that has not existed for many years.

QUOTE
We'll never know, of course, for I did perhaps the bravest or most foolish thing I ever did. After all that time being his puppet, after all the terror and grief he put me through, I screamed in rage and charged into his legs, knocking him backwards. He scrambled up and finally turned his eyes on me.

"Lolly Pringle?" he said, gaping at me in astonishment.

With another bellow of rage, I charged at him again, this time leaping at him so that I hit him full in the belly. He tumbled backwards, cursing and clawing at me, but still I pushed him back. We were both rolling on the platform then, which was slippery by whatever foulness that he had coated the marble floor with. Somehow I found the inner strength to keep fighting and pushing, until I was able to shove him over the edge on the far side of the platform that overlooked the Crystal Sea. He grabbed my ankle and took me over with him.

I am sorry where is my answer?

Ialie - it's a combination of things. Mostly, look at Estelbar. It does give a snugglebunny affect-feel. Honestly, I really can't think of anything obvious - but, we're talking about a bunch of little fuzzballs and really big teddy-bears running around.

Although, you're right, there's other things that show they aren't snuggly. The part where Lolliprin comes rushing out of the Taint, and the Tae'dae picks him up. I think he was cradling him, and Lolli was thinking about how normally an adult tae'dae would get slapped for doing it.

I very much agree with everything you said, Ialie; there's no intrinsic reason why Ackleberry should be Snuggle Heaven.

At the same time... Furrikins. Little rabbits and bears and squirrels with dungarees on. Try as I might, it really makes me think of Sylvanian Families.

The words 'hate conflict' will appear in the help file for Ackleberry. Ackleberry will attract all the snugglies because of those two words.

How do you know what will appear in the helpfile? They had to sever themselves from reality to protect their great spirits. Who knows what has happened between that time.

Anyone remember Conker? -That's- a furrikin.

Let me see if I can answer this in all the ways I intend to.

1. The way I see it, Ackleberry should logically have a dual-sidedness to it. It should be fierce and vicious in its defense the way a she-bear is about her cubs, and nurturing and loving internally, the way a she-bear is about her cubs. But its day-to-day affairs should probably have a certain "bucolic paradise" tone, which I think Maelon's recent bardic captures fantastically. And that is what I was referring to in my post about predation. It's a place where people usually live happily ever after.... even though they have to get through the conflict that precedes that page in the story.

That said... and not to conflict with it...

2. Ackleberry withdrew from the Taint Wars instead of staying to fight. I don't think that corroborates the idea that it will be conflict-averse; if anything it contradicts it. I'm not saying that they made the wrong choice! Being a seed of survival is important and Gwylifar has advocated that as Serenwilde's purpose. But it's certainly not a point in favor of them being out for the fight.

3. Irrespective of all this, there has been a general understanding amongst the players that Ackleberry will draw the snugglebunnies, and thus whether that's what was originally intended or not, that's what's going to happen. Sorry, it's just inevitable, barring some surprise from the admin -- which frankly we should be expecting by now! -- and even with some surprise from the admin, eventually.

“Wait to see whether we should follow Ackleberry. The Nine Seals may break at any time and release Kethuru. Or perhaps he may take control of the Taint again. We must prepare ourselves to leave as Ackleberry has.”

If the taint had reached Serenwilde the way it had reached Ackleberry, they would have left also.

Many people also said this of Serenwilde.
Gwylifar2005-06-16 18:00:29
In a way, we did. Just not with the same severity or finality.

Ackleberry fled prior to the Taint coming to their doors. Ackle saw the Taint corrupting, figured it was coming their way, and ran. It didn't get to the doorsteps. If the Seals had broken, Serenwilde would have seperated itself, yea, but because there would be no chance of survival - Kethuru would have been entirely free.

They're described as "bouncing furrikin" who exist in many forms because the elder god furryrurrykinkins or whatever he was called loved all the animals too dearly to choose a single form.

That said, as a furrikin player, I would be bummed if Ackleberry became populated with thugs who are only playing furrikin to use an overpowered new guild (though Lusternia seems to be the only IRE that doesn't make new things extremely overpowered to start).

Oi, Don't knock Conker with that wussy crap.
Conker's got big nuts.
So says the intro credits.

Ahahahahaha, Conker. You guys are great.
Manjanaia2005-06-16 22:09:42
Right, I'm now compelled to have a Conker avatar.
