Polearm-Based Guild

I am aware there are other threads about the subject of polearm weapons (Spear, Staff & classic Cutting blade on a stick type) however they've all been long buried and I felt it was appropriate to leave them there.

What I would enjoy seeing are several guilds who are based upon the use of Spears and other Pole weapons as thier primary armament. As from what I have learned in game about the system, currently little to no knighthood abilities work with spears, if they even exist.

As for functionality in combat, especially direct melee, I would not be thinking of things like Pikes, or Halberds, I am talking about Quarterstaves, short staves, short and long spears and Naginatas. Weapons that can easily be manuevered in close quarters to perform damage.

Also the use of staves and spears in fighting is similar, you still have the ability to perform most if not all staff manuevers with a spear, and vice versa, it's akin to the seperation of a sword and a mace, one is blunt, the other is pointy and sharp.

I would also figure that since staves and spears are more of a dexterous weapon, the skills from within the specific group would reflect this. They would not be tanks like the current Warrior Guilds, but they would be close to that in terms of defensive capabilities.

Any input on this would be welcome happy.gif Such as what I forgot to address if anything.

It would most likely be a specialization off of Knighthood - and I wouldn't expect it until we see the Gaudiguch warriors, the Wyvernriders.

There are polearms and such out there, they function as normal cutting/blunt weapons. However, they aren't too popular, so you'd probably have to ask a forger for one to be made for you, as you won't find one in a shop.

I just finished reading up on the history and I would actually take a guess that the Gaudiguch Wyvern Riders WOULD be the Spear Knight specialization myself. But we'll have to wait and see.

And thank you for your input Blastron, I will have to look into that later on in my IC career.

I was actually hoping that Shikari would bring a new specialization with him, considering he has like... everything, the specialization would be of Polearms, not spears, since the Bonecrusher is not just maces or clubs, but bludgeoning, i'd like to see an axe specialization come out with Hallifax maybe, since i dont believe they fall under the Blademaster option, since that's based around swords not axes.

I used spears just because I have a preference but I would love to see a pole-arm specialization, Axe would be great as well...so would unarmed -snickers- but I'm not sure if we'll be seeing any of those for a long time, if at all.

That should be coded even now, it would boost riding and polearms even before the specialization.

Imagine, your typical blademaster or whatever charges in on a horse, does a pokey thing, tramples, then switches to a more normal weapon.

Riding already is useful.

Defense
Mountkick
Fly
Joust
Trample

If you've ever has these skills (maybe not joust), you would know that they actually help. Trample is one of the most deadly skills there is, because in the time it takes to trample, you can dismount and your enemy will have three limbs still trashed. Riding just isn't used a lot. That doesn't mean it's not useful.

A few of the very high skills are useful, but before that, Riding is worse than useless, since riding a mount takes away more things you can do than it adds.

Also if you notice most people have their mount follow behind them then get it to use combat abilities while they fight normally. Combat on mounts is rarely if ever done.

Yeah, that Defence thing is not very much, while all the things that come back "you can't do that while you're mounted" add up. I've said before, the Riding skillset seems to be "take away a bunch of abilities" at the start, then as you gain skills, you gain some of them back. It's all backwards, in the absence of some really useful point of getting on the horse in the first place.

Assuming all four limbs are broken, I can heal all 4 before my opponent recovers balance with mending (I can heal it 3x faster with the Healing skillset)... it isn't all that useful without some other setup or hinderance.
