Well I created a Hartstone alt. Whoo hoo. Learned my skills, everything goes fine. I hear a few things over Serenwilde CT about weevils giving unusually large amounts of experience, and the usual responses of "It's because you're human" come up. So I go to Newton to check it because there were reports of gnomes doing the same thing. I kill a fink guard and go from level 2 to level 5. o_O;;
30 minutes later, I'm now a level 22 novice with still 23 hours of playtime left before I'm out of novicehood. wtf?

It's a bug, rats don't drop 140 gold and give 5% at level 48.

I killed 2 weevils when this post came up and didn't even get a % (was just trying to see if it was just effecting novices), so, it wasn't worth my time to abuse
