Well, I was just asked by one of the guilds younger members about the taint, where it originates from, when it came, how was it created and all.
And all I was able to say were some things about the Project Cosmic Hope, that it went wrong and that Landatine was somehow tainted after that. Then I added some confused babbeling about Astral being tainted by Kethuru, and that taint came down unto the empire when a connection to the astral plane was established.
So, now to my question:
Is there ANYthing about the origin of the taint and the like somewhere in the helpfiles? Now I am curious myself, and I'd like to know a little bit about the taint if I am asked again.

It's pretty much all in the histories. The taint is something like Kethuru's touch, as far as I know.
Ashteru2005-07-26 17:37:33
Well, the helpfiles ingame only have TBA written in them, and the website history ends shortly before the start of project cosmic hope and it restarts with the mortal races struggling to rebuild what was lost in the taint wars.

Huh? It starts just BEFORE Project Cosmic Hope...
The Taint is, basically, Kethuru's crap. It was in the nodes, and the Astral Plane. It is, essentially, Kethuru's prison cell - and he crapped there. A lot. When Ladantine linked it to the Stone of Truth, Ladantine was tainted, as was the stone. Those with him, one from each of the four cities, touched him - and they too were tainted. Lolli and the ur'guard with him were not. As the Stone of Truth became tainted, those with a link to it were also tainted. It then produced a cloud, which then slowly spread outwards. Everything it touched was polluted. Most noteably, the earth itself was tainted - and as it slowly crept outwards, anything that touched this land fell under Kethuru's control.
I theorize that, because it was actually the earth itself producing the tainted clouds, when Hallifax blew the clouds, it did not slow the taint, as is stated in the history - they simply blew the polluted clouds over the Gloriana, while the earth just belched more. Orclach touched by it became orcs. Contrary to what someone might argue, Lolli was NOT tainted. Once Kethuru was gone, the Taint was just a really bad case of the squirts sitting in the toilet.

Aye, I meant before they 'launched' the Project.
But thank you for all that!
But thank you for all that!

The histories go quite indepth into the Taint Wars.. you really might want to look a bit closer. There are links on the side of the "Fall of the Celestian Empire" thing.. so, when you go into the first little page, that's only the first section of the history, then there are like 5 more pages.
Ashteru2005-07-26 18:02:30
Oi, I completely overlooked them.
Thank you too!
Thank you too!

True origins of Taint are not really described in the histories.
The most popular and also the most simple explanation is that Taint is just a byproduct of Kethuru's magics, or his instrument that he used to morph lifeforms and dominate them. So, 'Kethuru's crap', like it's often called.
I like to think that Kethuru found Taint and used it to his advantage, but Taint itself originates elsewhere, is not Kethuru's creation, and doesn't have any malicious purpose. It's just that Taint present in the realm was marked by Kethuru, so it's properties are the way they are.
That little theory has not been proven wrong for me yet, so I still hold to it.
It doesn't really change anything though.

Kethuru CALLED it his offal. IE crap.
Lisaera2005-07-26 19:10:14
He was speaking of the current taint, which he considered just a remnant of the power he used.

Aah. I took it as the Taint in general. Hmm! I still like my theory.
Alger2005-07-26 21:48:24
One main theory is the Soulless are those who uncreate. They do not create things, crap or not.
Veonira2005-07-26 23:18:02
Hmm, I'm hoping an admin or someone who knows a lot about Lusternia's history can help me out here.
In Magnagora, was the Necropolis always called the Necropolis, or did it have some other name, like Shallamar/Nil, Stone of Truth/Megalith, etc. I'm writing a story at the moment and would love to know what it was originally referred to as.

House of Prophets (I think).
Veonira2005-07-27 00:09:49
Oh, really? I thought that was the name of the Nihilists guild. Or did they just share a name?
Nokraenom2005-07-27 00:11:27
The Nihilists were the Fatalists.
Veonira2005-07-27 00:13:10
Know what, Estarra was right (Not that I thought House of Prophets was wrong, just confused ). Just found the part that mentions it as that. Thanks a ton!
Another random question. This one's really out there, and I know that it was never referenced in anything.
Any chance we might find out what the towers (Tower of the Thousand Hungers, Tower of the Dark Fates, Tower of Inescapable Damnation, and Tower of Insufferable Cruelty) in Magnagora surrounding the Necropolis used to be known as? I guess I don't really need it, but it'd be cool to know regardless.

Now, I don't have the histories right in front of me, but if I recall, there are a few references to other Soulless Gods creating something an awful lot like Taint as well. Esentially, a thing is Tainted when it is in the presence of, or even observed by, a Soulless God.
Suhnaye2005-07-27 22:42:03
The Taint was always unique to Kethuru... None of the other Soulless made anything like it, though they were all pretty damn bad even without it...
