I have a problem. My store, for lack of a better word, was nerfed. I know this happened some time ago, and I made a fuss back then, but it's starting to bother me, now that I'm restocking.
I paid 1000cr, and got a store that does not show everything that I am selling.
So here's the idea. Remove the wares limit on bought stores. We aren't talking 300k stores that are owned by the city/commune, we're talking $300 stores.
Give us an incentive to buy them, and help out the people who already have?

Actually, I'd like more than 8 bins please and a nice, easy way to view wares there.
WARES ENCHANTMENTS
WARES TAILORING
WARES SURVIVAL
.. etc. I can't stock more than 10 of herb type in my store before running afoul of the wares limit. We really need a better way of indexing things.

No.
Well, that's kind of cool, but.
I want people to see what I'm selling. If they cannot see what I'm selling, without doing WARES EVERYTHINGREALLYSPECIFIC, they will move along.
You spend $300, and get a store that shows 25% of your items.

Well, it shouldn't have anything to do with IC vs OOC spending - its just credits, after all. Why should it be different if I bashed my way up? or I bought a store with something I won in an artisnal?
What i'd like to see is more effective WARES/BIN filters which don't require me to blow 200k because the Admin decided searching the store for items was taking too long. Yes, its taking too long. Please give us some tools to make both store management more useful whilst making it easier for people to buy items. I don't want to have to take over half the stores in Celest just to effectively stock what needs to be stocked. Gah!

You've missed my entire point. Congratulations.
I was using dollars as an example of how much it cost, to put it into perspective. If you want to bash five million gold, have at it.
The Point was, that stores are expensive, no matter how you buy them. I hate the fact people cannot see all my wares right off, and to at -least- make it so that restriction is taken off of artifact stores.
The argument isn't 5000000gp>200000 either, its just that perhaps, if we're going to do anything about the problem, we consider those that have -purchased- stores, and secondly, perhaps, those that are -renting- stores.

I was on java, so I'll paraphrase.
Syrienne: See, no faeleaf!
Syrienne: Bloody liar!
Syrienne hops up and down on your foot.
(WARES FAELEAF)
Proprietor: Master Richter Carthan
a group of 10 faeleaf stalks stock-50 price-100gp
Syrienne: So I'm supposed to guess at phantom herbs?!
Richter: THAT'S WHAT I SAID.
Syriene: So I'll need to wares each herb, unless wares herbs works
Richter: No, it doesn't get faeleaf, etc
Syrienne: So it cuts off some just because?
Richter: wares mushrooms
You can see where the conversation went from there.

I prefer this arrangement to having a limit on the stock itself.
For now, just make your items into bigger groups, the limit isn't that severe. For instance, instead of having 50 groups of 10 faeleaves, have 5 groups of 100 faeleaves.

I'm all for more bins.
I'm neutral for wares limit.
However, in response to Elryn, more people are likely to buy groups of 10 herbs rather than groups of 100 herbs.

WARES HERB works.
What if the most generic categories available in the shop were listed at the top when you do WARES?
Proprietor: BlahBlah
--------(Item)-------(Description)----------------------------(Stock)-(Price)-
The shop attendant smiles warmly, showing that you are especially welcome.
Look for: WARES HERB, WARES GEM, so on...
As for bins, I'd rather like to see a way to switch the bin number without having to move all stuff from one to another.

If the coders ever get the chance (so I'm thinking in about a year or so ), maybe the code for shops could be changed so that at the WARES command it runs through and takes one of every distinct item first, then after that adds additional duplicates up to the 200 item limit. So you would always have at least 1 group of 10 faeleaves displayed, even though you might have a lot more for sale.
For example, lets say you had 100 faeleafs, 100 arnicas, and 100 circlets of silvered leaves. (What? I'm allow to advertise!)
At the moment, I believe on the WARES command you get the first 200 items that were dropped, timewise. So you would only see 100 faeleaf, 100 arnica, but no circlets. Instead, it could run through and take 1 faeleaf, 1 arnica, and 1 circlet, and then add 197 duplicates afterwards in whatever fashion it likes. So in this system you would see 100 faeleaf, 99 arnica, and 1 circlet, allowing at least all the available items to be shown.
Meh, just a thought. I think its pretty low on the priority scale.

Wares herb does not work on faeleaf, reishi, or a number of other things. Reishi, is a mushroom, not an herb.
And I'm not really wanting to compromise either. I need someone to see all of the items I have sale. Elryn had a neat idea, though I'm not sure how that would work/be effective from a coding standpoint.
If you walk through Wal-Mart, do they hide 75% of thier wares, and when you cannot find those items, have you ever found out later that you had to ask for each and every item individually?

Does the U.S. suddenly lag really badly because every Wal-Mart shoved their entire stock out on the floor?
Unknown2005-06-22 15:58:09
That sucks. There should be certain amount of generic categories, so, for example, WARES HERBS shows -all- herbs.
I get your point but when the change was made I had the impression that it sort of had to be made so I have doubts if it's gonna be changed back...

If you walk through a wal-mart you cannot see everything from behind the counter. You have to look at everything, go through each Isle one by one, and by then you are lost in the sea of wal-mart never to be found.

Okay, lets fix the analogy.
It's like walking through a large mall, where there are several stores right next to each other (since you can go to say, my manse, and then Hayden's in under a second).
You go to a store and look on the shelves. On isle (bin) might have super soakers, one might have action figures, and one could have video games. You walk past them, see what things are for sale there. If you do not see it, you assume they do not sell it.
Now, you -can- go up to the counter and say, hey, even though I just looked through your store, I bet you have this for sale, even though you obviously don't have it on your shelves. You ask them if they have GI Joes, they say no. You ask if they have Barbies, they say yes. You ask if they have playstation games, they say no. You ask if they have Xbox games, they say yes.
Halfway through, you get irritated and go to the store next door.
See my point?

Sorry, that was just too funny a mental image. Olympic athletes losing in the last 10 metres and trying to blame it on a dodgy connection. Or their running system breaking.
