Back to Common Grounds.

Hmm. I found this interesting.

Archmage Marinus says, "Anyway, our job here, in what was the jewel of the
Empire's research facilities, was to probe the aether, to attempt to find new
planes and sources of power. In fact, it was we who discovered the Cosmic
Planes of Shallamar, Helix, the Abyss, and the Cosmic plane itself."

I guess Helix was where the Matrix links, and Abyss the Flame. so they're no longer the Continuum and the Vortex?
Daganev2005-06-25 00:19:46
who is that person you are getting quotes from?

"The Cosmic Plane Itself" makes it sound like one they revere - id est, Continuum. Helix SOUNDS more like Continuum, but because of that I figure it's Celestia.
Erion2005-06-25 00:45:45
They only named three - Celestia was founded before any of the others.

The quote, Daganev, comes from the leader of the merian island.
Melanchthon2005-06-25 00:48:38
It's certainly curious, but things being known by different names in different places isn't unheard of.
Daganev2005-06-25 00:51:08
That or we are making assuptions about the Elemental planes not having thier own names...

This isn't a "different place". This is a gathering of Lucidians, Dracnari, Merians, and Geomancers. Specialists, best of the best, whom came from their cities with the sole intent of forming these creations and studying the Aether. They'ld call it what they'ld call it - but I doubt they'd honestly be different. I mean, they're all under the control of the Holy Celestine Empire. You'ld think the Imperial Merians there would know what it's called, right?

And not contradict the histories so greatly.

So Earth is suddenly called Shallamar, JUST like their cosmic plane?
Erion2005-06-25 00:55:28
AND it CLEARLY says "The COSMIC PLANES of Shallamar, Helix, and Abyss".
Unknown2005-06-25 00:55:41
I think it's more likely that the new ones weren't linked to a city. There's no reason why they would have to be.

They were mentioned with shallamar. Perhap's they're new, but we'd have heard SOMETHING of them now.
Nokraenom2005-06-25 01:30:50
Right. My guess would be heretofore unknown Cosmic Planes. We know the Multiverse is rather large and encompasses a number of "creches" in which Elder Gods were raised, aside from the 4 in the histories.

What I ment was that the names that you are pulling from the histories and the like. Not the ones the mobs are saying.
Unknown2005-06-25 02:16:19
Maybe if Magnagora would leave the merian alone we could finish things up with him and the gorgogs and possibly get a bit more of a clue from the old guy about these other Cosmic planes they undoubtedly found.

Last Transmissions from both Gaudiguch and Hallifax, as well as the Planar Map on the Lusternian web-site would disagree.
Gwylifar2005-06-25 14:03:57
There used to be more than four cities, too.

Hmmm...but not in the Basin. And do the Planes stretch outside of the extraplanar space outside of the Basin? They seem a little small for that.
Gwylifar2005-06-25 14:35:23
That's the point, though -- they're small only because we're not seeing the other parts, just as the Basin is "small" (relatively) because we're not seeing the lands beyond.
Erion2005-06-25 18:29:27
I imagine the cities were constructed due to some relation between their physical Prime spot, and the aether lay-outs. Maybe not!

But the cosmic planes were not discovered by non-Vernals until AFTER the Vernal Wars. The Saint embedded in Pearl in the Celestine's guildhall was the first non-vernal to ever transverse to a cosmic plane - EVAR.
