Rats/weevils is money and a bit of experience, better money than most things, I expect, but it gets boring, and I'd like to mix things up. Rockeaters would seem more worthwhile except that there appears to be no shortage of gems.
All those snakes in the Oleanvir valley, can I get money out of those? Because I'm short on cash too and I don't want to tangle with something that's going to give me a slew of afflictions if I'm not going to get any recompense. How about the fledgling roc who I ended up visiting against my will?
I'm under the impression that most of the stuff in Glomdoring is worth money of you give it to this so called "Ebonglom Wyrm." But I'm from Serenwilde so I don't want to feed some evil tainted wyrm thing and I don't know of the glooms would appreciate my presence terribly. What are my odds of running into angry glooms if I try bashing there? Also, is there anything I can do with corpses from glomdoring besides offer them at a shrine or give them to the wyrm?
Is there some trick to killing cows? Because they just won't stand still long enough to die.
denizens of the elemental planes worth anything to any NPC? or is it just all about essence with them?
This is probably a little outside my capabilities, but where would one get raw iron ore and does that contribute to steel supply as well?
...or does all this fall under the banner of quest information that can't be shared?

Just be careful if you kill the adders.
If you kill all of them, they start to go extinct and need hours to restore :/

Quests. Quests, all the way.
My Ebonguard novice alt can't bash spore grass, but said novice is level 22 with about 10 hours online.
I'd suggest the Seren pixie quest and pilgrim gathering.

Best bet for knight bashing at low levels: do it as a mage. Quit while you're still a freshman novice. Then join the knight guild of your choice.

And if you get caught doing it, you might go extinct too.
No, there's no money in the adders, unless you take the Poisons trade skill, in which case, there's almost no money in them. Sorry.

Okay, first off, that last smilie is awesome.
Joining a mages guild, then ditching them really isn't my style, though. And I'm at least as concerned about money as I am about
And I know quests are good, but only if someone else hasn't done all of them first. I've done the pixies in the serenwilde thing, it mixes nicely with weevil hunting, but it only works when there are pixies about.
I hear comm quests, are good but I really only know how to do a couple... sell dead chickens, sell dead rock eaters. I can probably figure out a couple more pretty easily, but I have a feeling I'm only vaguely aware of about 5% of all comms quests.
I guess my big question here is: Will any NPC give money for assorted corpses from glomdoring, and will hunting in glomdoring serve only to bring swift, savage destruction down upon me?

A good question is why to bash?
Lusternia isn't like other IRL games.
We have influence and we have COMMS QUEST!
If you want to bash and get gold for it too, then try do comms quest. For someone on level 21+ its great exp, you are helping your city/commune, you can explore some world and you can get nice gold for it!
When i was on those levels and credits were for 1000-2000gp i was buying a lot of them and i had gold from comms quests.

Well, I generally prefer fighting to wandering around collecting things, not that I hate wandering around collecting things, it's a nice diversion. But anyway...
Okay, so various dead animals are worth money and produce meat, poultry, etc. I can experiment and figure out which.
Live cows and chickens are also worth money if brought to the proper villager, to get dairy and eggs. Someone in some village probably buys sharks and things along those lines, right?
There's some ungodly complicated hemp farmer thing, or so I'm told...
Rockeaters can be used to produce gems.
The evil monster trees in glomdoring drop lumber that can be sold to a village to produce wood.
farmers somewhere or other drop fruit baskets that can be sold to produce fruit commodities, probably different farmers somewhere drop something that produces grain or vegetables or something... I don't particularly want to go killing farmers and getting enemied to villages just right now, though. Can begging get me through, here? And about how many lessons am I going to have to invest in influence to be able to beg effectively?
Is there any hugely popular and vital commodity quest I'm not aware of, here?

The hemp farmer thing isn't too complicated, but it can get you enemied to the controlling city/commune where you steal from.
And right, you shouldn't kill farmers unless you want double enemy status from the village and ruling city/commune. You can't influence them either because all farmers have greedy personalities.
The most popular comm quest is the rockeater one like you mentioned mainly because there are a good many of them where it is easy to just walk in a circle and grab them all. They bring in good XP and gold during the early levels too if you can handle them. Just invoke circle or bring health vials if you've just started.
EDIT: Oh, and not -every- creature can be turned in for gold, so don't assume it. Sure, some might have quest value, but lots of them are really there just for you to slaughter for exp like moose.

After level 9, I did pixies and weevils for about one level then left them behind for other quests. Since Serenwilde had only one village at the time I was limited in options (the village had chickens, but no one to sell them to), so instead I killed cows, brought them over to the village, grabbed some hay, then brought more live cows over. Meanwhile, I learned the pilgrim quest and did that while hunting cows, and, of course, did pixies when I passed them by. Faethorn was also lovely.
After around L30 or so I went for rockeaters and gathered live sheep along with everything else while having enough Influence to beg to everyone friendly (you'd be suprised: I find more guards who are friendly than normal townsfolk). At around L40 I added the Stewartsville honors quest, after suffering a good 5 hours to help Seren get that village.
At L45 now, I don't do too many cows (though it's still a viable choice) and have started bashing moose and influensing more. If Seren gets more villages (I HATE going to non Seren villages) I'll try for more honors quests, and I'll bash a little more, but I'm already planning on not seeing a level every 1-2 days (which is my current average, barring odd events like village influencing or gorgogs) and instead looking for quests that the commune needs done and ways to buy credits.
Not bad for a person who hates to bash, I believe. It DID involve alot of 'fetch' quests, but it doesn't feel so bad when you know that it's helping your Commune/City (the live chickens you bring in means more eggs for others, and nexus power quests are ALWAYS useful).
Rant: The Shanthmark big quest..oh how I HATE YOU SO!!!

Something that I have found just peachy for L21-30 is the Skarch and Glomdoring. Its a bit above your head but if you play your cards right...
For instance, my Mugwump can shield after every hit and just never be hurt. If you're clever with timing, shielding, or if you have nice mage friends reflecting, you can bash up quite a bit. Mugwump magish things, guardians, druids, wiccans and mages, have it really easy at these levels just by bashing slow things like trees and dashros/sandojins for an 10-12% each. Its great.
Mags should look into spectres after that, tankier races can take them in the 30's, most others are in the 40s. They're pretty solid bashing right up until astral.
