Giving out your serial number, especially to people you don't know, is not such a smart thing. When your license expires, they could grab another license from you and you'd be without one yourself.

All three of my liscenses are given to me from other people who have no need for them. I only use one from each account and dont hand it out or tell anyone. Its the only way I could ever get Zmud.

No allowance or fast food job? You don't even need a credit card to buy it. I don't see $30 as much of a monetary commitment, but I know my finances are different from some of the younger folks who play.

Wow, it must've went up. Last time I had an interest in Zmud, it was like $20-25.

Anyway, how do this work anyway? If the you buy Zmud and give away the other licences to the other two people, do they get free upgrades, too?

Yes.

eLicense FAQ

eLicense allows you to have Zmud registered on 3 computers at the same time. If you don't need to have it installed on 3, then you can give it away to someone (maybe lend would be a better word). It would be wise to give it only to someone you trust though, because if you, for example, format your system partition without uninstalling the license first, it's lost for up to 3 months and you're left with 2 for that time. If you gave away the other two, you need to be sure that someone who you lent it to will uninstall it so you can register.

I got my license that way, someone lent it to me (thanks, man!).

The idea isn't to give out your extra two licenses. The idea behind having three was to drastically decrease the hate mail that Zugg got from people who lost their hard drives and didn't have a way to get their zMUD license restored. It provided a nice way for anyone who lost one license to a disaster like this to use a backup until the original expired.

Now, I use my licenses on three different PCs, but if my primary computer dies and takes a license with it, I'll just unlicense one of the other two for a while and move it to my primary PC. They won't all three go down at the same time, I hope.

Anyway, good luck with your license-sharing ventures.
