Mm. Me and my friends were sitting around discussing what new things we should do with our hair. Cornrows came up (yuck), straightening (meh,) and then, well.. dreadlocks. We all made plans (I was thinking braiding rasta colour dyed hemp into them) and I think it'd look pretty cool. Do any of you have experience with dreadlocks? Does it look good/bad? Let me know.

Natural or hairdresser?

Drew, aren't you pretty white? It's been my experience that dudes like us get made fun of with: afros, cornrows, or dreads.

Then again, do whatever you want, its your hair!

What colour is your hair aswell? Blonde works for dreads on a fair skinned guy, but dark fails sometimes.

I'm fairly olive in summer.. black hair, and my dad's dad was black. I have a natural 'afro', and I"m just going to get shortish thin ones.

I say go for it. It takes a while to lock so there's no harm in trying. If you don't like it, just take 'em out and try something else.

I'm doing the same. I've been wearing my hair naturally for about a year now and I twist my hair up often.

You'd look absolutely friggin hilarious with dreadlocks. You don't look black at all.

Oh and dreadlocks mess up football helmets. Andrew Wallen has them and his face is like pushed right against the facemask.

After lookin' at your picture... I can't see how long your hair is.

But seeing as you said you got it cut.. just get it braided or something. If you do dread it up just make sure you manage it or it'll look really awful.

I was thinking about getting dreadlocks actually.. I look really neat with my hair in lots of braids. Then someone told me that you have to cut it all off once you wear the braids for a while, because they're so tight you can't get them undone. Me with short hair is BAD, so no no.. no dreadlocks for me.

All of the guys I've seen with dreadlocks have looked alright, but the blonde ones do look better then the ones with black hair. I'd have to see what your face looks like to make a decision though.

Yeah, you do have to chop it all off when you're done with it, but if you like a certain length you can just have it trimmed like you would your normal hair.

Yeah.. I couldn't handle chopping it all off.. I'd seriously break down and cry.

Sob. I recently had to get my hair cut and I told the barber just a LITTLE! You know he cut off like.. six inches of my hair? It's easier to manage, but it's horribly short now.

Siiigh. So I can imagine how you'd feel. Your hair is pretty the way it is anyway. Like you said, I could see your hair looking really nice in lots of braids.

But uh.. Dooksta, I'd just get plaits or twists.

Yeah.. I had it cut a year ago and the lady said she'd take off just a little.. she cut off at least 5 inchs! I cried, but this guy wouldn't leave me alone about it, so I just dealt with it. (I was at a rehearsal..) My hair has always been like a security blanket that I can hide my face with if I need to.. dun like it gettinge effed up.

Mm, my hair was like 6-7 inches long, when I want to get the locks started it'll be around that long again (late August, my hair grows like wildfire) and yeah.. it's curly.. my doctor says I have 'black person hair'. Don't take this as racist, because some people will take anything badly, but dreds only look good on black dudes. They also look horrible on girls, in my opinion.

Then again, all the girls I've seen with them have dreds that smell, and they hug trees. I live in hippie country.

Ew.. I don't hug trees (I like them.. just not that much) and.. I don't smell...

I have dreds! (kinda) I think my hair smells like that herbal essence stuff I use. But if you see a girl with very nice, neatly done hair, that may change your mind. I've seen some jacked up dreads in my life, so I know what you are talking about.

But, if you twist it up/braid it up and put some of those little white shells (buka shells?) or some beads, or even just wear it plain, that'll look great too. I'm a sucker for long plaits.
