I had a completely random idea, but a fun one. I suggest that 10-15 three or so room areas be scattered around Lusternia, able to function as a "base" for a clan.
We could have things like, a hideout for a den of theives, a back alleyway, a hidden doorway, all kinds of places.
Some would be better than others, and the best ones would have some sort of bonus afforded to the clan, +1 power reserve per day, 1000gp in their bank account per year, something interesting. It would promote RP (at least with the way I have it set up in my head), be an interesting "side quest", and be some all-around fun.
We'd have to have a way to occupy them, and to have other clans be able to boot you out.
Hrm, I think I might have to actually submit a detailed, formal, lengthy proposal!
*put it on abnormally long Lusternian to-do list*

Sounds interesting, but what happens when an OOC clan takes one over? Or what if a single person, as the head and only member of his clan, takes a base? There's also the possibility of all the fighters from one city/commune forming a clan to take the best base(s), though I don't know if that would be against your idea or not.

it would work like clan paint ball, or a old model game i used to play called necromunda, your "clan" or gang, would set up shop is hideout A, you get set buffs from hide out A, gang B sets up in hide out B and clans or gangs could rumble over said area's, definitly sounds interesting, but should have a player participent cap, so you can't have over balanced fights of say clan A, celests army clan, vs gloms defender clan, glom would just be tottally outnumbered and it would be pointless.

peronsally I'd love to see a powerful, underground crime faction, I'd fit in well there.
Kind of like a group of assassins, bounty hunters, smugglers, crime lords, pulling the strings of the basin

ya that would be wicked as all get out, i would LOVE it.
Suhnaye2005-06-30 06:15:05
I'd love it... Wouldn't just be thieves and underworld type clans either... There are all kinds of opposing clans and whatnot throughout Lusternia that could go at eachothers throats... I think it should be an option for when you make a clan a cartel to be able to make it a gang, or house, etc... Or religious fanatics opposing eachother...
Marcalo2005-06-30 06:43:38
yes, gods yes please please put this in!

I may draft a formal, detailed request with room descriptions and everything, if people think this is a neat idea. Usually, the only chance you have of getting private ideas implemented is if you take all work but the coding off Thier shoulders.
Vesar2005-06-30 18:46:37
Sounds like a good idea. I'm worried, though, that clans who "pull the strings of the basin" might become too powerful and unset the balance of the cityies and communes. What do you think?

If -that- upsets the balance of the Basin... we're all screwed. *snicker*
I'm thinking something like, a small hideout behind a bakery, maybe has two or three items of food reset there every day, for clan members only. A hidden room near a nexus, might afford all members +1 power reserves per day. A desert oasis could have a pond you could bathe in and draw water from.
They'd all have one room that would only open for clan members, and two or more rooms open to anyone.

Honestly, people like to think they can pull the strings of the Basin and so forth, but it's very rare that it happens in practice. Reportedly Twilight's order managed it a long time ago but I don't think it can happen in Lusternia. Too many OOC connections, for one thing. Look at how people leave AIM on so people can wake them up for influencing while they sleep or whatever. (It's been done, and quite a lot.)
The forums also kill this kind of thing.

I don't like the idea of making it based on clans, perhaps orders or guilds might make it feasible.
Its not something that interests me personally, however.

I've actually given this idea some thought (the crime syndicate one):
All someone needs to do is buy a clan and a manse for secret meetings, recruit members, hold said secret meetings, and then co-ordinate the evil plans to bribe, assassinate, steal, and pull the assorted strings.
I have some vague plans for steps one through four, working on pulling off the evil plans, but if people got their heads together in a meeting, and with some well placed (perhaps credit) bribes and good politicking, it could be done.
Perhaps I'll do this if I come into money with my alt, who's coming along well, and then no one will even know its me!
Muaha.

Well, you choose people you can trust that they won't tell that to anyone, even ooc?
I know, wishful thinking...

And it won't interest everyone, which is why it should be clans. Clans are special interest groups, not large organizations like guilds. I mean, can you see a guildmaster telling his guild "Let's go secure that little three room area" ?
Elryn2005-07-01 03:24:19
Guilds and Orders are exclusive, roleplay intensive, and balanced. Clans may not be.
How many clans can you be a part of? 10 or so, isn't it? This would allow someone to purchase enough clans with the specific purpose of obtaining all the 'benefits' of each hideout, as well as setting up those clans in such a way as to obtain a huge advantage over smaller yet more focused ones.

I'm in 11.
And we'll see, if I have the time to submit an idea. It's never even going to get looked at if I don't, and the chance of it getting implemented if I do is likely low as well.
