Many people cannot understand my excitement and love of Lusternia.
“Is that what you spend all your time doing?†They ask.
Sometimes I wouldn’t answer, sometimes I would feel my face burning in shame as I quickly tried to deny the claim, stringing together a list of generic hobbies that in my mind would never hold a candle to the adventures I have in Lusternia.
I take pride in my addiction. I am not going to lie anymore. I spend a damn good amount of time in this fantasy world, but no more than the avid reader spends reading his favorite tale, no more than the average gardener spends tending their yard, no more than the average writer spends writing their life’s story. Well.. no more, if you combine all these things together. This is what Lusternia is. A place of many possibilities, activities, where there are no endings, the story is what you make it of it.
“What? why do you spend so much time playing that game? Isn’t it just a gameâ€
“Because there is so much to do and yes it is a game, but it is so much more.â€

Yep. Screw people who think there's more to life. Go and enjoy yours, then, and sod off of ours.

Yeah, I remember when I first started getting into muds.. None of my friends knew what the hell I was talking about. I lost a few friends, but meh.. they proved later that they weren't really my friends, so I don't really give a flying rat's
Though there will never be a time when my family will understand.. but they don't understand most anything I do. I'm the black sheep in the group.

*cheer Ialie*
I have people look at me funny when I tell them I play this..especially when they know I'm 34 years old. I get the "Aren't you a little old to be playing games?" Bleh. Way I figure it, as long as I am playing games, I'm not old. The day I'm too old to play games anymore, I'm officially an old lady and need to go get my damn cane and walker.
May that day never come

Doubt many have figgered this out, but I'm formerly Rexali (still pop in at least once every 12 days to pay shop taxes, make palettes, etc.), but I don't play much anymore due to 'Real World considerations' - school, work, g/f.
Not to mention there are tons of good books and baseball season's on (watch for me (probably on an alt) when the season's over).

I just tell people that I'm playing a game on the computer. My gramma seems to think that I'm writing a story or something, though.
I'm glad you are not ashamed. I have yet to tell one of my circles of friends about my addiction to the so-called "nerdy" things in life, such as D&D and Vampire LARPing.

Mmm, DnD. Yeah, it's no secret I play MUDs and DnD and stuff like that. And if people don't like it, I have a lot of skill points in Diplomacy, plus a +3 bonus from Charisma, so I usually can smooth it over. And if not, I throw a magic missile in their faces.
Nayl2005-06-30 20:10:24
I want to magic missile... the darkness!

I just happen to do that -and- play Lusternia!
Munsia2005-06-30 20:58:16
So ya we are addicted.. I blame the creators. People say I need to stop playing cause imma go blind too hehe. 15 hours staring at a computer screen isnt -that- bad is it? I mean come on this IS life to some people. screw the real world. To many laws and rules to the real world! YOU CANT FROLIC IN CLEVLAND!

Yeah.. there really is, but somehow I manage to be on for 5 hours a day and make an A in the college class I'm taking.
I think it's really how the person handles it.. cos if you're on here all day and not eating or getting up to bathe.. That's when you need to get up and go do something else. Sometimes I wonder if Daevos has a refrigerator next to his compy.
Anumi2005-06-30 21:01:51
Heh. The only game that's really taken over my life was Civ2 back in college. It nearly ate my diploma. Achaea, I got pretty obsessed by, pulled a few all nighters hanging out with my favorite person there, now I'm at a relatively normal amount of obession in Lusternia (meaning, in bed by midnight, usually

Eh...
I'm really not one to talk. My friends don't know about MUDs, they don't even know how much I like video games or that I watch anime. I mean, a lot of the time there's no need for me to tell them, but I do hide it. I guess it's just hard for some people. It's not that my friends wouldn't like me, they probably wouldn't care, but they would probably tease me about it and it's just not worth it to tell them I guess.
But I'm not really ashamed that I play, because I DO participate in other things in life. I'm just one of those people you would never guess is actually a big nerd.

Like when my family says I can't make a living off playing games, then I come home from a Halo tournament with $200 and throw it all in their faces. Or people say you actually spend money on a game? And I say well do you spend money on a hobby of yours, and they go yeah and I go exactly, I spend money on it because it keeps me entertained and I enjoy it, so nyah!

Because you're a secksay beast, so nerdy is the last thing people expect of you. Like when people think that just because I'm tall and skinny, I can't beat em in a fight. I just let them underestimate me, more of an advantage for me when it comes down to it.
Veonira2005-07-01 01:36:47
Yeah sure.
Although my parents did give me a hard time about it. They're over it now, but they used to be like, "Ugh, I hate that game I wish you would stop playing it."

That's when you say, I hate your stamp colection (or whatever hobby they have), I wish you would just throw it away.
Edit: Then they say well that isn't the same as that stupid game, and then you say well it's my hobby, so unless you're willing to stop your hobby, lay off on mine.
Can you tell me and my dad fight alot about this? haha
