Sign of things to come?

Back to Common Grounds.

Gwylifar's aura of weapons rebounding disappears.
Gwylifar cocks back his arm and throws an onyx throwing dagger at you.
You bleed 71 health.

Wonder if thrown weapons will actually start to become common and worthwhile

Sweet, he's using one of my daggers!

How much damage did it do, anyway?
Gwylifar2005-06-30 21:08:20
71 bleeding, no damage. Took about 50 tries to hit three times. Klia threw at me about 20 times without any hits.

Really I wasn't seriously doing it. I was just roleplaying wanting to learn how and thus practicing. What better target than a smelly igasho? I've started asking my guild tutor if he can teach me.

Yeah, I know that's not likely going to lead anywhere. At last count I have six other pending subjects I talk to mobiles about for roleplay purposes that won't go anywhere without Divine reaction that I may not get for a long time if ever. At least one of them I have reason to think will really be never. But I still do it. Sometimes they pan out, so why not a seventh?

Well, I'm glad you're all using my daggers, they're cheap so you can RP. smile.gif

I do wish, however, that they did more when I use someone as a pincushion.

If we ever did get a thrown-dagger skill, I'd think to make it viable they should be much cheaper -- or more practically, you'd use about the same comms as a sword, but you'd get a dozen daggers in each batch, or something.

It always amused me that my Sentinel's throwing axe said in its description that it was designed to be thrown and discarded, and yet it cost as much to make as any other weapon, lasted as long, and you almost immediately got a skill to get it back. I'd've been much more impressed if it had really been designed to throw-and-forget, with price and shelf-life calibrated to make that viable but not overpowered. (Not to mention, it'd be good for Forging to have a consumable product.)

But I know thrown daggers for Blademasters is a pipe dream only. We'll probably either never see it, or we'll see it only as a separate specialization. A boy can dream....

What'd be cool with thrown daggers and such, as if they did hit, and got like a critical point, chink in the armor, they'd be stuck in there, and you'd need a special skill, or healing ability to remove them, and then it'd also mean if it hit your arm, that arm would be slower, head well you'd suffer amnesia, chest you could sprint, dash or move fast, gut bleeding, legs slow movement.
Gwylifar2005-07-01 12:57:46
Yeah, that's probably why they'll be a whole specialization instead of a blademaster skill, if we ever do get them.
Malicia2005-07-01 12:59:46
Kidchex is overreacting! 3 out of 50 hits? Pfff. So how's everyone?
Unknown2005-07-01 13:13:01
Overreacting? Because i'm hopeful that we'll get a throwing skill? Pfffffft.

And Richter it's a nice dagger, cheap too.
Richter2005-07-01 15:22:22
Between you and me, it costs me 211gp to make one. *sparkle*
Stangmar2005-07-01 15:45:06
Tell me, what are the stats on it in average?
Richter2005-07-01 15:48:54
You know, I never bothered to probe one, as I've never fought with one. I just keep them around for RP, like I do with my carpenter's hammers.

Go into Deepnight and probe one, I'm selling ten there, as of last night.
