A lot of warriors have been complaining they became to common and pale compared to psionics, so I made a suggestion for an athletics specialization, the skills of course can be adjusted or recreated, but the general idea is to have one specialization for the brute, tanky knight, and the other for the more vulnerable, but agile knight.
AB ATHLETICS
Weathering -- Immunity to normal weather.
Vitality -- An adrenaline rush to heal your body.
Sturdiness -- Standing firm against attempts to move you.
Toughness -- Increased resistance to physical attacks.
Blocking -- Allows you to block specific directions.
Regeneration -- Regain health through strength of mind.
Resistance -- Affords your puissant body extra magical resistance.
Sprinting -- To sprint rapidly in a given direction.
Constitution -- Maintaining your intestinal equilibrium.
Adrenaline -- Pumping adrenaline through your veins.
Hunger -- To force hunger and thirst upon yourself.
Consciousness -- The ability to stay conscious at all times.
Boosting -- Increasing your rate of regeneration.
MASTERY -- Specialize further into finesse or brutality.
AB BRUTALITY
Headslam -- Stun your opponent with your hard head.
Indimidation -- Intimidates weaker opponents with your bulk.
Breathe -- Prepares your body to reduce fatigue loss.
Tackle -- Roughly tackle an opponent into an adjacent room.
Barging -- Barging your opponents.
Doors -- You can now attempt to barge through doors.
Strength -- Increases the strength of your strikes.
Charge -- Carry someone a great distance with a charge.
Numbness -- Delaying the effects of damage.
Immunity -- Immunity from most poisons.
Surge -- Increase your health at the cost of your mana.
Puissance -- Your next two physical attacks will be of great strength.
AB FINESSE
Senses -- Manage the sense of your sight and hearing by sheer willpower.
Backflip -- Flip over obstructions that stand in your way.
Projectiles - Avoiding many projectiles.
Dodging -- Avoiding attacks from the sky.
Acrobatics -- Leap and bounce to make yourself a difficult target to hit.
Agility -- Increase your dexterity greatly.
Balancing -- You're like a cat, you are.
Transmute -- Instantly convert mana into health.
Jumpkick -- Leap at your foe in a neighbouring room, stunning and tripping him, as well as doing minor damage.
Somersault -- Quickly somersault past obstructions, even when bound.
Precision -- Your next 4 physical attacks will only do half damage, but 1/3rd more wounds.

INFO:
-senses enables you to become blind, deaf, or regain sight and hearing at will, but with a delay each time.
-projectiles offers a chance to avoid flung runes and shot arrows.
-dodging makes you immune to crow hoisting.
-acrobatics increases your chances to dodge physical attacks.
-agility is like strength, but boosts your dexterity with 2, instead of your strength.
-balancing offers a chance to remain standing everytime you're in danger to get tripped or thrown prone.
-somersault is like tumble, but a different message, more style.
If for some reason you think finesse seems better, you're wrong, since you're down 2 strength and lost surge, when you pick finesse.

hrm, i like it except strength should be in the base, allw arriors should be strong! have an extre point of con for brutality
Thorgal2005-07-05 17:01:16
No, the point was making agile knights less strong and more agile, strength is one of the skills that should certainly not be in athletics or finesse, only brutality.
Remember the point of this post wasn't to ask it to be like this, just offering an example of how you could make athletics more interesting, i.e. by making a larger gap between speed and power knights.

Intimidation is when you frighten someone into submission, so perhaps we can see if it can be changed to something like debate perhaps, but you will not be attacked by the target for the next 3 minutes? As with fear, they can compose it, and as you have intimidated them, they themselves have a respect for you, which could be converted towards that they don't attack you or try to inflict harm.
Also if we could add some of the swashbuckling abilities of achaea's jesters and bards to the finesse, such as handspring, acrobatics, knuckleslap, backflip thrustkick, backhandspring, drunkensailor, heartsfury, or trueparry...
For the brutality, DeathFromAbove as a trans skill? or more of the Tekura skills, as in Sweep, Palmstrike, Bodyblock, Guarding, Bladehand, Wrench, Backbreaker, Slam?

Would acrobatics (or, heck, any of the dodging things) allow dodging from NPCs?
Unknown2005-07-06 00:51:40
Add a few more skills to each, like for Finesse, Highjump - Delayed jump which allows you to jump over a compelete room, and any obstacles providing they're in a straight line. Kickflip as a third attack, go Wardancers! Instead of Precision, you could add Wardances trans skill, Double Time - Speed kills, as do you.
No skill i believe allows dodging from NPC's.

No no no.. No Wardancers. Lusternia is unique, let's keep it that way.
I do like the idea of jumping over the room. That was what I was hinting at when I first suggested Acrobatics. For, say, 1-2 power and a time delay, allow the warrior to jump completely over a room, landing on the other side, allowing them to attack from an unexpected direction.
You could further customize the Acrobatics idea so that city warriors have more city-related skills (like the ability to run across rooftops) and commune warriors to have forest-related skills (like Tarzan...).
Just a thought.
Murphy2005-07-06 02:31:46
Personally i'd love to see a skill where, if you got them prone, you could do a WWF style "jump on them with elbows out" thing, this could be damage dependant based on your size, and the type of armour you're wearing (fullplate would hurt more, cause its heavier)
as long as it wasn't cheesy or obviously doing a WWF move, and looked cool.....make it like BBT and give usefullness to legtendon and breaking legs

So, basically, speed knights lose surge and get nothing to help with being crushed? Come on, at least think about NPC stuff a LITTLE bit here? Please? It is a semi-important part of the game.
This would turn into speed knights getting Brutality just so they can survive, and heavy knights seriously thinking about finesse so they can kill faster, imo.
Murphy2005-07-06 03:16:05
Xenthos, i'd tke finesse as a speed knight, but i'm different because I'm tanky without surge.
Xenthos2005-07-06 03:44:00
Yeah, I was thinking that when I read it over (and you know, you were the exact reason I was thinking it, heh.) But figured I wouldn't modify it, my point still stands, just read "frail race that relies on speed". (Speed knight sounds better!)
Murphy2005-07-06 03:56:28
I'm as good as any other speed knight, and I'm tanky. I could still take brutality and be a speed knight as well
Unknown2005-07-06 06:32:14
Well if you look at it, quite a few of our skills have been taken from other IRE muds, and Acrobatics is the same as the Jester/bards skill. I dont mean to have it exactly like that, but having a skill like that for speed knights, like, Doubles there attack speed, like 30 seconds for 10 power, would be perfect for a Speedknight, though the 10 power would mean you cant use Haymaker as well. And Kickflip is more of a acrobatics type of skill, as your jumping, fliping and kicking in one movement.
Hmm what about a skill which, is like that highjump, but instead, still the delayed action, but basically, you'd need the see into sky ability, you jump up, tackle them in the air, and pull them down to the ground, and like land on them, sorta like the WWF idea, but it'd be more classy, cause basically if your in the air and not targetted you'd see. Murphy jumps up from the ground, tackles into Xenthos and carries him into the ground below. Basically it'd give like broken limbs, random 2, pretty bad wounds on everywhere, since i mean falling from the sky with a big metal tin can ontop of you -isn't- going to do wonders for any part of you, as well as given a decentish stun. Also it'd work in the trees as well. Well jumping into the trees.

Shryke2005-07-06 06:58:00
It should stun both the knight and the target for one second, and prone them both aswell, maybe have a chance that the knight would get some damage too, for realism...
celahir2005-07-06 09:48:29
The only thing I dont like about it is that some of the skills only work against one or two abilities. Your rarely gonna be in a walled up room and webbed and skills that protect against only one skill or two are not gonna help.
Also the two skillsets need to be fairer since although there are some good skills in finesse everyone will pick Brutality.

That case is hardly as rare as you make it out to be.
And skills that protect against only one skill or two can help, ESPECIALLY when they're really common (and commonly used) skills.

Acrobatics allows dodging from NPC's, it increases the chance, and it also is affecting you, not the room that you are in. For this, anything that affects you would work if it increases your chances against others, NPC's and Players alike. Anything that would affect the NPC, venom, behead, etc.. won't work.
Jairdan2005-07-06 10:35:39
This would be absolutely awesome. I loved Swashbuckling in Achaea, and I'd love to see warriors get this option and be that much more customizable.
Murphy2005-07-06 11:02:14
Yep, I can be the singing, dancing, backhandflipping and lunging (attack from another room) Orclach Bonecrusher.
Fear me!
