I hope you're all safe. It's a sad day when people sink so low as to lash out at the every-day worker, and the public commute services. I hope you're all safe, and that Lusternia's so addicting that you've quit your jobs - and thus were not on any of those buses or subways.
Shiri2005-07-07 12:14:35
Nasty, nasty stuff. Hope none of you live near or have relatives there, atm.
Unknown2005-07-07 12:15:40
Yes, I hope everyone is safe! I caught bits and pieces of what happened on CNN this morning while tieing my shoes for work.

One of the men I work with is english, and was told not to come into work, and to make sure his family's alright. I'm worried for 'em - his sixteen year old kid rides the subways there.

I caught bits and pieces of it on CNN headlines while eating breakfast as well. Reading up on it through google news as I type this. Days like today are unfortunate.

It was probably those damned Frenchies upset at losing the Olypmics and thus trying to frame the terrorists. You can't trust people who eat snails and frog legs.

It is rather crappy that it's happened today, just a short day after London was in massive celebrations over the Olympic announcement.
Of course the likely reason for the timing is the G8 summit which began today. Luckily the emergency services in the UK and particularly in London have been training for precisely this kind of situation, and are doing incredibly well.
The bombs went off shortly before 9 a.m. which of course is rush hour for commuters to their jobs, none of whom have anything to do with what these terrorists are attacking for. These are innocent working people.
A couple of people have asked about me, and I can happily say that myself and all my family and friends are safe, I've checked with them to make sure.

I just did the whole phoning family and friends thing, noone I know was caught in it so far.
Manjanaia2005-07-07 15:27:16
It sucks. I saw it at school, seven bombs as far as I know, 6 on the tube and 1 on a bus. There were only two people dead when I found out and school but now there are 33 or something. Why do they do it?
And Lis, if it was at the G8 summit, wouldn't they have attacked Edinbrough? I thought that was were it's being held.

It's not at the G8 summit, it's at the same time in order to maximise the attention the attacks get.
Also it's only four attacks, the reports have been confused but it's confirmed only four, one on a double decker bus and three on tube trains.

I can remember when the World Trade Center was bombed a few years ago, when I was still in high school. I think of the people there in London, but also the country, as they have to watch this.
Sadly, real life does not have a portal of fate, we cannot enemy people, and our guards or police aer not all-seeing.

and yet we still manage to get nerfed in real life.
I hope all you people from England are ok.. I watched a bit of the news when I woke up and saw some of the pictures. It's really crappy the way they attack the working man.. I would say just nuke the middle east, but then we'd be doing the same as they are.
Lisaera2005-07-07 16:44:28
I am very proud of England, the English people and the emergency services right now. We are not being cowed, the emergency services are working fast, professionally and with their usual expert skill.
London is going about its normal business as best it possibly can, and in fact many of the public transport systems are coming up and running even as I write this in time for the commuters to go back home.
At the G8 summit the world leaders have all stood literally behind Tony Blair, including Jacques Chirac, Vladimir Putin, everyone's favourite George W. Bush and a number of others, and expressed their solidarity and their resolve to not be pushed around by terrorists and to continue working to fight terrorism. They've also resolved to continue the G8 summit, continue to talk about things such as the envrionment, poverty and AIDS.
They're not going to beat us. We're going to continue helping Africa, being charitable, running our society which despite my routine grumblings is a good society, and living our lives. These terrorists won't win, and every time they stage these attacks against normal, innocent people they lose more support and find themselves facing more and more resolved opponents.

Re Joli:
Yeah, that's everyone's response to a few hundred people acting in a country with millions in it, they just say to blow the whole thing up.
They have civilians too. The entire east is not one military encampment.

Aye, nuking them would be obsurd, you shouldn't value the europeans, and americans so much more than the arabs. We are all equal.
Unknown2005-07-07 19:33:08
Can I get a count from one of you Euros? I've been told by the American press only 3 subway bombs and one bus bomb - this morning, Fox News was saying 6 and 3, respectively. I tend to distrust right-wing media, and AP seems to be reporting 3 and 1. It's sad the toll is up to 70 - although, it's much, much lower than I expected. If the former count was right, or anything near that, that's very, very low for something of this calibur - I'm told it happened in the midst of rush hour, as well.
Lisaera2005-07-07 19:34:24
It was three subway bombs and one bus bomb. The reason for the miscounting is that the people affected were forced to come out of different subway exits due to the trains blocking entrances and such.
Also, the sound from explosions underground travels very far.

Ah. Yes, it seemed like a few of them, when looking at a map, were near other stations. Like King's Cross, looked like it had one or two nearby.
Thanks.
Thanks.
