So I was thinking....
It would be really helpfull if the GM was able to make "Guild Announcements"
Everytime you return to the prime material plane a little broadcast goes out to you telling you the guild announcement. For example...
(Ebonguard:Anouncements) Bomani says, "The guild would like you to know that we are having a blood drive, please donate your blood."
Bomani is the name of the guild tutor for the ebonguard.
That message would not be public but rather only the person who enetered the plane would hear it.
eh? eh?

Why not just post that on the news?....
Daganev2005-07-07 16:49:31
3 reasons...
1. Gnt, gr1 and gr2 can't read news.
2. On news posts you can't write, "we have 50 pints of blood, only 20 more to go"
3. News posts can get lost in the hussle and bussle.
4. Not everyone reads the news posts as soon as they log in, or everytime they "come back home"
Other possible announcements
"Paavik is now open for influencing, head to the ravenwood and await orders"
"Important guild meeting going on, Secretaries and undersecretaries are unavailable for the moment"
"We are currently having a festival, head to Bob when you can"
etc.

Or you could buy a clan for the guild and post to the news and guildlogs there, where all members can read it.

The Geomancers does this. We have to keep encouraging the little ones to stay on top of the news though. It's not a bad idea Daganev, but I find it rather superfluous and extra work for the coders when they could be working on something else.
Daganev2005-07-07 17:03:34
Logs and Posts require a person to actively read them.
Not every little thing that would help the guild deserves a post... Especially things like battles that are going on, or festivals, or meetings.
An announcement serves purposes that Posts and Logs can not.

I don't see the difference between posts and announcements. Honestly. What's wrong with posting about festivals and meetings on the news board? If you aren't actively reading the post or logs in the first place, why would the person bother to pay attention to the announcement (other than the fact that they don't know how to read posts or logs - this happens quite often)?
Unknown2005-07-07 17:11:16
The only reason why this announcement implementation makes sense is for RP reasons IMO, and a little bit of convenience.
Sylphas2005-07-07 17:12:59
This would be nice, if only because it's a pain in the ass to hold everyone's hand and get them to read the news when I post something.
Daganev2005-07-07 17:13:35
Posts tell you when a festival is going to start, or when important meetings are comming up...
However an Annoucnement tells you the Festival is happening NOW, or lets them know they just missed it.
Or if an event is going on, instead of everyone saying GNT Whats this big nasty thing falling out of the sky?, they log in and see
"Currently the Gorgogs are comming out of rifts from the sky, they are dangerous and need to be killed, not a task for the faint of heart"
I think it would help communication a lot, especially when everyone is "busy"
Another possiblity for this is the old "GNT, Welcome to your new guild, read HELP GUILDNOVICES your guild, GHELP LEARNING and GHELP IMANOOB, an Undersecretary will be with you shortly." Might be a nice addition for new members to get such a thing, especially if they join the game during a non peak hour.

I can see what they're going for, really. Seems like this would be really useful for the OMG SOMETHING IS ONGOING RIGHT NOW type of stuff, although it'd be handy for ongoing things. I might read a post about some essence drive or gold drive, but then forget about it the next day. And if a village goes up or something, it'd be nice to be able to tell people about it who happened to be off-plane, or in a spammy duel in the arena. Granted, the news already does this, but I hardly ever check news except when I first log in or if I get really REALLY bored, but don't want to log off and waste a lot of power.
EDIT: Ninja'd again. Curse you Daganev!

I don't see why you guys think this is a bad idea. I've been wanting something like this ever since I started playing IRE games. You don't go and post on the news little sentences about stuff like if you're raising money for your guild. You don't post on the news how close you are unless you're about halfway or something near the goal. This would help with little reminders like "We've only raised 16546 gold everyone, we need to work a lot more if we want to reach our goal." However, certain people like posting one sentence news posts... *mutter*
Unknown2005-07-07 17:16:55
Alright you convinced me. Sounds like a pretty good idea afterall.
Manjanaia2005-07-07 17:21:30
I think this needs hitting with the implement stick
Richter2005-07-07 17:22:49
This is a good idea, but isn't likely to get thrown in. Make a GHELP ANNOUNCEMENTS, and have people check it from time to time.
Like you said though, people don't always check it, and your idea is more like a l.e.d. readerboard, instead of a website you have to check.

Vesar2005-07-07 17:25:00
I like this idea. I have a tough time getting people to read the news, on the guild boards or on the clan we have for < GR3. This would allow us to be more active in the guild, and a great chance to get more roleplay.
Unknown2005-07-07 17:53:36
I think players already have skills for this purpose in Illusions, don't they? (magic mouth, script, etc)
Just put the illusion at the nexus. People pass by there often enough, they'd definitly see it.

Shamarah2005-07-07 18:01:56
Magicmouth is highly annoying and people who don't need to see it would, as well as people who shouldn't see it, and someone'd probably end up dispelling it, and it expires anyway, and some people don't hang out at the nexus, and it'd just be easier and very nice to have something like this.
Gwylifar2005-07-07 18:44:46
You know what I'd like? "You have 17 new news posts." News is what's there for this job -- we just need people to read it.

Agreed. I just can't understand people who don't even bother to check for news. I know I nstat at least once every five minutes, and check the logs maybe half as often as that.
I don't expect people to read every little detail of everything all the time, but I've run into gr1s who were TOLD not to bother reading news, and it makes me want to hit someone.
