I'm really just looking for non-rat non-pilgrim ways of making gold. I always seem to be really broke after newton, when you have people dropping 200k for credits. So post up ideas on making gold, con-games quests and whatnots. I would like to hear them all.
Hajamin2005-07-08 05:23:42
For lower levels, pilgrims and comm-quests are probably the best way. If you can manage to figure out a few honours quests, those drop 5k per, but there's alot of others trying to do them all the time too. Once you get higher levels and skills, you can work your way up to gorgogs and astral where there's tons of gold to be had.
Also, some of the city power quests give good gold. Magnagora's(if you're a citizen) probably gives the best gold out of all of them.

Try commodity quests in the villages.
And do the honours quests.

I only know two honours quests, the ones in newton, heh, but man it is amazing how fast you people reply.

The big spenders on credits are pretty much all astral bashers. So get big and go there
Also, I have a friend who made a fortune influencing, but I haven't heard many other people call influencing profitable.
I found the elemental planes and seas to be profitable back when it was worth my time to bash them.
And, as Hajamin said, gorgogs are nice. 450 gold per corpse sold, assuming the quest works the same way as the event

They obviously have no lives.
Oh, wait. Pot calling the kettle black.

It's realy all in the quests: the more you know the faster you'll earn.
If you're fresh out of newton, your best bet is to probably rat/weevil while doing any quests you can that's inside your home nation until you can afford a few recovery items (health, mana and perhaps herbs). Once you have them, learn the pilgrim quest and, in turn, the highways (if you havn't picked up the maps on Lusternia's web site do so). Past that learn what villages your nation has following them and realy REALY REALY get to know it, from the comms they need all the way up to it's honors quest(s). While you'll be fine if you don't master the honors quest, you'll be sitting pretty if you can learn it (myself I know 1 and can probably do 3 others if I didn't refuse to involve herself too much with non-Seren villages).
Then just expand from there. Make a habit of learning the area and struggling through the quests there. If you need/want more money consider learning your trade skill. Influencing...well, I see it more as a way to earn exp and maybe a little gold than a real money maker. Maybe if there were creatures as hard to influence as Astral creatures are to kill and gave as much gold.
At the moment I realy can see a person making enough cash once they learn the quests (though getting credits is another matter). I'm more worried about when the player base grows; quests in general have a BAD habit of being unavailible once the number of questors grows high enough. Given that, be ready to put the focus on your trade skills (good side: more players = more people that need clothing, vials, herbs, armor, enchants, ext.).

I've got an entire healing set, I made roughly 30k in newton, I just wish some of these honours quests were a wee bit easier or at least had a pointer to the starting Mob. But I guess that is why they are worth it and you get an honours line. And what level could I start do Gorogogs as a Geomancer Viscanti?
Tsuki2005-07-08 06:23:14
Level is only important for the increased health/etc. Lessons spent in skills is much more necessary.
I can't kill a single gorgog as a level 61 High Elfen. Then again, I know I'm not skilled. I don't have many (if any?) of the "needed" abilities. So, it's a good thing I'm patient and spend most of my time working on guild secretary stuff instead of getting frustrated attempting to gain experience. At least I try not to die (and staying in the guild hall or commune helps in that) so I'm not losing huge chunks of what I'm not gaining.
For you, I recommend patience in addition to the excellent suggestions of pilgrims and other quests that others have mentioned.

Don't knock pilgrims. They give 100 gold per, along with nice bits of experience and karma if you're still low leveled.
Comm quests are really nice. Really, really nice when you can't kill things anywhere else. And yeah. What everyone else said.

I have made well over 300k gold in a matter of days farming 3 honors quests back to back. Sadly, Magnagora now possess Shanthmark, so I am left with only two - and I'm trying to be nice to Myndaen, so, I am generally just farming spectres.
But, indeed, Astral bashing seems to be the best way. Or take Alchemy, and inflate your prices a little. I mean, rarely is there competition - so why not?

Supposedly, akin to many MMORPGs, quests are supposedly going to get updated so that after only completing certain ones you can do the others (So in a sense more quests). No, I don't have connections to any admin. I'm referring to an old post about quests where I wrote an idea or two in and I think Auskelis or someone replied on the topic.
Of course I could be referring to my idea and not what he actually said... oh well, the point is I like my idea. Maybe Shiri can search it out (If he still does that) if I don't in a moment.
More firmly on topic though.. I'd go with commodity quests as well, if they're available. Nice bit of gold per live chicken and cow (If you can deal with the cows), and along the way you could pick up pilgrims even if you aren't particularly searching for them at the time.
Rockeaters (given they aren't taken.. again) might be good just for circling around the mountains on occasion. Make a pattern out of it, y'know?

The village honors quests do. Check out HELP (villagename). It'll usualy talk about some problem going on that someone has that 'if a person could help them, would be rewarded'. Then talk to that person and any other named people you see around. If they seem to be all happy and without a problem, the quest has been done.
Oh yes, another BIG, HUGE tip for you and anyone else just starting out, CONFIG ROOMDESC VERBOSE. There's more to a room than what you see on Info Here.

I don't think it was Auseklis. I've looked and looked and can't find anything on the subject. Maybe I'm losing my touch, or maybe you're just imagining things.
Unknown2005-07-08 13:38:41
I'm sure there was a topic somewhere. Meh. If only I could browse through my past posts... I searched "quest" and "quests," but I'm not willing to look through... searching, searching.. through 33 or so pages. Maybe I'll peek around sometime though...
Edit: Of course I didn't abuse the "more options" of the search function.

Few things you can do for gold...yes the quests in the villages are great. Ratting/weeviling is good money if you want to spend the time on them, even though they're boring. Pilgrims are good, power quests in any of the cities/communes are good gold. Alchemy, herbs, enchantment, those are the three big-money-making tradeskills. IF you can do it, gorgogs and astral are the big money...everyone's always blathering on how much they make there *jealous*.
Shamarah2005-07-09 00:39:55
We definitely need some gold sinks, and fast. Gold is inflating like crazy right now.
