Library Update

Is there anything you guys can tell us about a timeline or any plans whatsoever for the library system that's in the works? I have nearly novel-length volumes of work that I desperately need to be able to put into books that can be copied en masse. The lack of this capacity is severely restricting a lot of roleplay I'm trying to push forward and any assistance whatsoever you guys can give would be enormously helpful.

Some update in this department would certainly be appreciated. As Rhysus mentioned, it detracts significantly from roleplay, as well as inhibiting our novices from learning more about the game. Not everything is appropriate to be recorded under the ORGHELP files, and having a library would help us significantly.

Indeed, I can't wait to have a guild library for our novices. I remember being amazed at the depth of the world in Aetolia when there were volumes of literature all over. I visited all the libraries I could, and made copies of about 40 of them, for 250gp each.

When libraries are released, I hope to have one in my manse as well. It would be nice to amass a large selection of public and private works, and heck, I already have a three or four room library.

Horay for reading. biggrin.gif

Oooer, can we have a red light, black tape section?

I'll make you a heap of ascii porn, and short stories!
Unknown2005-07-08 18:03:47
Yarr, I got alot of 'stories' to write, yours truly is the lead character.
Unknown2005-07-08 18:06:28
Ooooh I loved the libraries in Aetolia, all the books with mischans and tells, heh, even better than the ones here. I can't wait for the library
Gwylifar2005-07-08 22:09:50
Gods, I hope when we get libraries the last thing they're used for is books full of mischans and mistells. In fact, the very idea makes me think maybe we shouldn't have libraries. Or at least make sure we can find out who is compiling such things so they can be punished.
Rakor2005-07-08 22:12:09
Uh. Those aren't books. That's not what books should be used for. Those should be burned. What the hell.
Galatae2005-07-08 22:35:58
Agreed.

And I myself am really looking forward to an update on libraries. Is there any update out there?

... Pretty please?
Richter2005-07-08 22:39:36
If someone is putting mistells and stuff (direct text quotes from the game) they need to have their rolepoints docked.

As is, if someone says on a channel: So and so tells you, "Blah". I tell them to never do that again. Can you imagine your mom telling you "Your husband tells you, "Make sure our son does his chores" ? "

Yea, and I think whatever people want to do with their own personal library should be granted to them and that you all should stop being nazis.

Neat. The only opposition has already admitted defeat, so early in the thread. Hooray for keeping books IC.
Joli2005-07-08 23:16:48
happy.gif ooers, I can't wait for this to be put in the game. It would be so neat for everyone to be able to just read the Glacille history, cos no one is gonna ask about it. tongue.gif Would be a good way to keep up with old scrolls and posts I've written to so I won't have to go hunt them up post by post.

Edit: why do I hate my journal so? blink.gif
Unknown2005-07-08 23:22:32
Oh man, this'd be great. The whole concept of building a culture for a race would be 1000x more simple, and alot more RP, with books to read with all the notes in them....*bounce* YAY smile.gif

I've just lost that small amount of respect I had for you, automatically granted to people I don't know.
Joli2005-07-08 23:45:05
Yeah, but I'm sure we'll still see lots of porn in people's houses...

Though Richter is right that if they just copy and paste they should get their rolepoints docked. At least be.. creative.. and write it yourself.. or have someone else write it.. ninja.gif Though I don't think there is a way of making the qoutes bit IC unless you write a story about "One time at the Mother Tree..." or whatever..
Shamarah2005-07-09 00:01:11
Sure there is:

"I said come on fhqwhgads!" - Strong Bad, mistold on the Celest aetherwave.

Obviously, you wouldn't actually use that, but you get my meaning.
Unknown2005-07-09 22:39:18
Oh come on when you have a goddess of mischief in the game (I think we need one btw) the things in her library are almost always gonna a bring a bit of a laugh out. And what about books to help in building reflex systems that every guild would probably have, thats very ooc.
Gwylifar2005-07-10 01:28:11
Humor can be done without it being either OOC or inane, let alone both. As for the reflex thing, you're entirely right, so let's be sure we don't have those, either.

We post that stuff here. I'm sure there are plenty of guides over in the combat section of the forums.

and we do -not- need a mischief god..that's the last thing I need, someone that promotes acting like a jack censor.gif
