Why doesnt anyone write a background, they are not that hard to write at all. Just a few paragraphs that make your character infintismly (sp?) more real and gives it way more depth, the only reason Glissa doesnt have one is that I don't play her too much anymore, as a matter of fact I may be deleting soon. I do not like running multiple characters.

I probably would, but they're so permanant, and I don't consider myself a great writer. Just too scary to have a permanant typo where everyone could see it.

Because the very act of going through the portal wipes memories for your mind, and that provides very nicely OOCly for people not bothering to write one as their characters can indefinitely be forgetful IC. Which in some ways is good, because it means that 99% of the RP is based on the now rather than the then.

I have a background, but not a history, because frankly, I'm lazy.

My background has a permanent typo, which kind of sucks. I can see why they'd make it permanent to keep inconsistencies in RP, but we should get special permission to fix typos.

Need to improve my writing skills first or else I would have written one long ago.

Mostly for that same reason...memories are wiped from the Portal...so why write a background when not one of my characters HAS one? I like the whole "blank slate" thing. That means that I don't have to stress myself making characters in my past that won't exist anymore...means I don't have to worry about it if someone wants to adopt one of my characters, or even roleplay out that I'm their long-lost kid.....gives me leeway to have FUN with my kids.

I love reading backgrounds. But I have the same problem as almost everyone else has. Since I can't change it, I would like for it to be a decent one and I'm not a good writer. But, its in the works though.

I liked using the amnesia not as a way to not have a background -- I still come from somewhere -- but as a way to learn a little bit about the world and explore some options before committing to something. I like how it turned out.

I hoped this would mean Lusternia would have backgrounds that weren't all "I'm from somewhere you've never seen on the map and then I was orphaned, poor me!", but it seems it's led to Lusternia without backgrounds at all for most people. I can see why some people wouldn't have them, but I think there should be a lot more because they'd help with more roleplay.
