ARGH. My disc 1 stopped working and I wanted to start a new game so I borrowed a friend's. It's all fine and dandy until I hit the Ancient's Temple, near the end when you fight Demon Gate (which is ALMOST at the end of disc 1). It freezes and I can't go on! THIS CLOSE TO FINISHING THE DAMN DISC TOO! I don't wanna blow $20 to get one disc so I can finish the 5% of it that's left, but I'm stuck with TWO FF7 Disc Ones that don't work.
/end random rant.

Y'know, that's the exact same place my friend's disc got frozen too.
Maedhros2005-07-15 19:25:06
It's a conspiracy by Squaresoft to get you to sink more money into FF7...
Evil corporations!
Richter2005-07-15 19:45:37
I think I have three copies of that game. One, a disc is missing, another a disc might be broken, and the third is complete.
So out of $60, I have one copy.
Oh, and did you see that they did the opening to FFVII at E3? They're teasing us too, because they say they have no plans to remake more than that first cutscene...

That happened to me too, stupid temple.
Maedhros2005-07-15 21:39:10
Advent Children better be DAMN good to make up for their cheap glitched CDs of FF7 .

FF7 fanboys/girls suck. This game is HORRID. The storyline is horrid, the whole Cloud/Aeris/Tifa love triangle is a LOAD OF BS if you have the relative intelligence to comprehend this HORRID HORRID storyline. Sephiroth isnt even Sephiroth! THE MAN WAS DEAD FROM THE BEGINNING! And Barret....is an insult to a certain group of people. I'm not going into why public. If you're oh-so dying to know, I'll do it in PM. If I'm not feeling lazy.
Then there's how badly it sucks in terms of gameplay. Stats are nothing, the characters are too generic in playstyle, and please..Emerald/Ruby WEAPON..hard?
Anyway,
EDIT: More ranting. Even if FF7 is good to you, you should understand this. Square is MILKING the damned thing. M-I-L-K-I-N-G. Its why Mario is hated. It's why all his stuff sucks. Advent Children/Dirge of Cerberus is a get-rich-quick scheme.

Someone obviously failed to understand some parts of the storyline (or maybe you considered it too HORRID to take a closer look to them?):
There never was a triangle between Tifa, Aeris and Cloud as we know it. The only part when one of the girls was actually jealous of the other was at the end of the ancient temple, when Aeris asks Cait Sith about her relationship with Cloud, making Tifa (slightly) angry. The part when she asks Cloud is Tifa his girlfriend doesn't really count.
Sephiroth was dead from the beginning (the only parts when you see the real one are Cloud's retrospection and the scenes at the crater), but that doesn't mean he's not there. In fact, he has the power to control all of his clones (telepathy, or something), some of them in more direct ways (like the clone with Masamune who looks exactly like him, which I consider the "main clone"), some in less (Cloud).
As for Barret - I don't know who do you mean, black people, coal miners, Scotland highlanders (his full name is Barret Wallace, an obvious reference to William Wallace) or people with prosthesis, but it's bringing the political correctness a bit too far.
However, the milking part of your post is correct, unfortunately. FF7 is so popular that they are going to make as much money from it as possible, we can only wait to see games like Cloud Does the Dishes (ha, he deserves it) or Vincent's Fishing Game. Good thing that it won't happen to FF6 (offtopic: FF7 had much better official artwork, IMO. Yuffie's so mischeviously cute, the Turks look cool and badass, and the rest of the characters are cool too. FF6's artwork looks like Arabian Nights meet Some Weird Anime Style. Not my taste).
But on the other side, Square's milking will have one good effect. But will it be worth it...

Which is exactly why the fdkl;'s;fsjeeeQWERTY's on Gamefaqs, rpgamer, rpgfan, and just about every other major gaming/rpg forum just need to shut up about it.

Not quite. I really hate to debate this twisted, dry storyline, so I'll let a quote from a good friend clear things up for you:
"2: One guy(Sephiroth) causes all the ruckus and ruins the planet and what. FALSE. That was all Jenova. As we see in the freaking first hour of the game, Sephiroth dies 5 years before the game even begins.
The only time he actually APPEARS in the game, period, is when we see his corpse frozen in that block of Mako in the Northern Crater. HE'S DEAD.
The evidence is all there. JENOVA is trapped in that machine in the Shin-Ra building. She breaks out, kills the president and most of the research team, and gets the hell out of the building. The sword is a fake; a part of Jenova left to befuddle Cloud into thinking that Sephiroth is alive again(He isn't).
Every time you meet with "Sephiroth" and begin to fight, what is it you actually fight? JENOVA. That's not Sephiroth magically floating around and doing whatever, it's Jenova leading the pieces of herself around so that she can be complete again. Remember the "clones" that everyone was talking about? They're not Sephiroth's genetic clones, they're people who underwent the same procedure Sephiroth did. They're just the people of Neibelheim who were injected with Jenova cells, thus why they all go to the Northern Crater.
All evidence in the game points to Sephiroth being dead and Jenova being the real villain. Jenova is the only one with the power to summon Meteor. Jenova is the only one with the power to cause such Mass destruction. Sephiroth is just a pansy pretty-boy who serves as a figure head to get all the fanboys gasming over everything in the game."
-Gen Eric Gui
So yeah.
EDIT: And yeah, I liked FF7's art more than FF6's. But FF6 still wins, as it has Kefka, the -original- pansy pretty boy who DOESNT go crying to his mommy for help in his quest of world destruction/domination.

I'm not a FF7 fanboy . I find the general fanboy/girl to be horribly annoying...especially when it's people who won't admit that any game but their love affair is good, or those people going CLOUD IS SO KAWAII TEH GOSU! plzkthxbai la~ ^^.
I found FF7 really fun...
Emerald and Ruby Weapons ARE hard if you don't use Knights of the Round with HP Absorb and Mime...but that combination makes the game ridiculously easy/pointless. But you don't have to use them. (And if you thought FF7 was such a bad game, why did you even bother going far enough into the game to be able to face the Weapons? )
But equally as annoying as fanboy/girls is the diehard FF6 fans who are obsessed with the game and claim that every FF after 6 sucks; why? Maybe cause FF6 was state of the art when it first came out, but now it's quite low-tech compared with the newer FFs, and they can't cope with their game not being "the best" anymore.

Emerald Weapon: All Lucky 7's. Slices down a good half or more of his health, you won't even need the Underwater materia.
Ruby: Exactly what you said.
And I never did face them. I'm just pointing out the ever obvious ways to kill them.
Secondly, I hate -all- forms of fanboy. Whether they be FF7, FF6, Disgaea, Shin Megami Tensei...the list goes on.
As for my Kefka comment, I am a...villain conniseur, if you will. I hate any game with a half-arsed villain. That being said, Golbez from FF4 is the greatest villain ever, if only because of his game-breaking attacks he uses after you fight his oversized doll...
Veonira2005-07-17 02:12:51
Going back to broken discs. I finally got around to beating FF7 about a month or so ago, and right before the final battle the disc got -so- funky. It started playing FMV's from like..the Golden Saucer and crap in the background as I moved Cloud around, it was so trippy. I died a few times to the final boss, so I did eventuallly get a chance to see what the -real- landscape was, but it was pretty funny .
And Slimeman, really now. There's nothing more obnoxious or stupid sounding then trying to tell people that they shouldn't like a game because -you- think that the storyline is rubbish. Grow up, eesh. I happened to really like it, although personally I am in love with Chrono Cross (and most people disagree with me there, and I can see why I guess ).

EDIT: Well, may as well contribute.
Do any of you have "Greatest Hits" copies of the game? This could be your problem, if the disc is brand new yet still defunct. A couple of square titles were re-released as "Greatest Hits" and had new things added to them, which appearantley bugged the discs. I myself always make sure to get the originals - I once traded in 4 different copies of Chrono Cross, and -none of them worked-. And they were -all "Greatest Hits" games-. Eventually I got the Hell-Mart slaves to refund my purchase.

I hate how FF went so technical. I loved it back when it was castles and old school, with airships that didn't have rockets and then some. I hate their new style and it kills the whole FF feeling if you ask me. No one should be mixing up magic with guns . I would love to see them recreate 2(4?) or 6 with the graphics nowadays personally.
Maedhros2005-07-17 20:03:27
FF2 was awesome . I played it at a friend's house but never beat it, and I can't find anywhere that sells SNES cartridges . I don't want to bid on e-bay either, though there are some $10 ones that are looking pretty nice .

I'm going back through FF9 and I have to find a 3rd disc cuz mine freezes during the video sequence with Alexandor being unsummoned or whatever.

Heh, 2/4(same thing) was awesome. Aside from the occasional *XXX Cool dude is dead!* or *XXX cool character left the party FOREVUR!* moment. I miss Tellah.

I think the only FF i actually did not like was 9 not sure why but it kinda was not as fun as the others. A few hours just leveling and gettign your special crap from armour and i breezed by every boss except the end one which took 10 minutes.
