I recently made an Ebonguard alt, and just realized how painful it is for a newbie with a Warrior archetype to bash. So here are my suggestions:
1) Wooden practice shortswords would be far cheaper and faster to forge than normal weapons. They would cause drastically higher damage against denizens (one jab would cause about 1/8 of the damage a Blast or Cosmicfire causes). But it would be impossible to use any skills given by Blademaster with them. They would be useless for Bonecrushers, Axelords and Pureblades, of course. Also, when using them, your damage is cauculated as if your skill ranks was Master, or your actually skillrank, whichever is lower. That way, they'd be useless for anyone who isn't a novice, but they'd let Warrior newbies bash Newton about as fast as Guardian/Wiccan/Druid/Mage novices. They'd be useless against players as well. So anyone who got out of novicehood would have no use for them.
That way, Warrior newbies would bash about as easily as newbies of other archetypes, without having to buy lots of credits early to get a good weapon and high skills. But they'd still have to attack some eight times (four doublejabs) to kill anything. After all, they can tank the damage more easily than newbies of other archetypes.
2) Create a combatstyle which can only be used by those without a Master specialization. That style would cause far more damage against denizens, but would be useless against players.
The usual response to complaints about how difficult it is to bash with warriors is "Get better weapons." But most guilds aren't going to spend the resources necessary to make good weaponry on novices, most of which go inactive anyway. So having some kind of newbie-only weapon would be good.

good thinking, but everything would be fine I think if Shortswords and clubs just had High Damage and Low Percision and Med speed.
If its base number was higher and the number of forgings made less, I'm sure htat would help guilds also.

Make "low precision" equal "no precision."
Terenas2005-07-18 06:30:21
Yeah, drop it to 1 precision but let them have better damage and speed. Goodness knows warrior novices need serious help when it comes to bashing.

Right now, wood is probably not the best thing to make those out of.

Well, now that my wooden training broadsword design is in, I hope that helps fix newbie warrior hunting at least a bit. They're still pretty cheap if you know where to get your wood from and they have fairly ok damage...
Gwylifar: The wood is due to our guild roleplay. Ebonguard novices can't have steel.

Heh...Nice idea...Myfaeling ebonguard is incredibly slow at bashing...
Narsrim2005-07-19 09:39:14
You know what, I think anyone who tries to bash their way to level 20 is insane. By doing the New Celest power quest, you can get to level 10 in like 10 minutes if you are lucky. Those gold sands got me from level one to three for -1- of them.

Pff...For people just starting, kinda hard to know what to do when it comes to quests...
Unknown2005-07-19 10:06:31
There's a help scroll explaining exactly how to do it and I think it even gives directions if I remember rightly.
celahir2005-07-19 10:12:00
There are wooden shortsword designs in Celest the weapons stats are just treated the same as a normal shortsword.
Unknown2005-07-19 13:15:18
The stats -are- the same. Designs are about nothing more than looks and forging costs. A sword made from wood worth 500 gold in commodities is no different in terms of possible stats than a sword made from steel worth 5000 gold. The only two factors that modify the possible stats of any weapon is the type of weapon (broadsword, shortsword, etc) and whether it is a masterweapon or not. That's it.
