For the love of the cook...

Please, please introduce a sugarcane crop to Lusternia or a surefire method of production of it. As a cook, there is so much goodies I'd like to create, but with sugar being an alchemy woops only material... sweets are at a minimum.

And on a random note, why doesn't Rockholm produce steel?

Europeans in the middle ages relied on sugar beets, not sugar cane, so it would really be very "period" to be harvesting sugar as a commodity from any of the farming villages.

Yes. They were oft farmed by giant cat-men and one-eyed giants, as well. They were oft brought over mountains by very large, shaggy men accompanied by small, slimy salamander-like creatures, too.

By the way, sugar, like mercury and spices, is supposed to be rarer than normal commodities

Spices are rarer than normal commodities now. I don't get 50 per set of 60 herbs. sleep.gif

Spices, Mercury, Sugar are all meant to have the same chance of being created, though Sugar is rarer because when you think of it, Spices takes up -one- herb of what you were harvesting, Mercury takes up -one- coal commodity, Sugar takes up a whole potion. And so there's not alot of sugar, sugar isn't everything, i was a cook for quite a while, and i was able to create quite a few designs that didn't use sugar.

There's a difference between suppose to and reality. Go into most shops and you can purchases spices by the hundred for the price of probably 10 spices per gold piece. Mercury with amount of food cooked is next, but is still in higher quantity than sugar.

Sugar is not anything that would affect gameplay however, I don't see why it can't be added a commodity. Heck, make it produceable from fruit if it's sugar beats as Exarius mentioned. While a lot of great dishes can be created without sugar, what about those of us who have a sweet tooth? Nearly all pastry recipies require sugar, some in larger amounts and don't even get me started on cakes.

There's a reason we have Trademasters, if you want recipes without sugar, go complain to them, if you want sugar, go befriend an alchemist, more then likely you can find sugar, you just dont know who to ask.

Naturally, this is why I said suppose to.

Also, sugar does affect gameplay: the rarer it is the more cooks will charge for sugar using foods (theoretically, of course)

But- but if you get another source of sugar, us poor alchemists will have to BUY our mercury. sad.gif

The trick is to make lots of alchemist/cook/blacksmith friends. biggrin.gif

The trick is to befriend a trademaster. I submit things with the comms I want and (if they're within reason) they get approved.

All metal maces (free reforgings), iron maces (20 iron at 61gp, or 20 steel at 210gp?), and other such things. It's all about the designs.
Chiba2005-07-19 23:46:41
You make a good point Richter, I'm sure I could come up with a dozen+ recipies that are tasty and don't require sugar. Hah, now if Serenwilde could actually afford it's cartel expenses.
Unknown2005-07-20 03:11:31
Last time i checked Public submissions didn't actually cost anything.. it's only cartel only ones that cost 5K sad.gif Very expensive there. doh.gif
Chiba2005-07-20 18:10:06
5k is reasonable in my opinion, well not now since Astral is down ninja.gif Plus wouldn't you like to share your tasty recipie with only your commune bretheren rather than have your enemies cooking up as much of it as they like?
Unknown2005-07-21 12:01:58
5K is easy to get, it's like a drop of water in the pond. And why wouldn't you share the recipe, it's more benificial to share it with the world while keeping commone specific ones that are more suited to the commune, i mean i dont think many people would like to see Pixie Blood whiskey as a public recipe. tongue.gif
