It Happened Again

It seems a report came in about 10 minutes ago that London has been attacked a second time, there are reports of "exploding rucksacks" and the transport police are evacuating Warren Street, Oval and Shepherd's Bush stations on the underground.

Preliminary reports suggest it's not quite as bad this time, but still I suggest if you know anyone in the area of those three stations, you take the time to check now while the phone networks are still up.

Thankfully it seems there are much, much fewer actual injuries this time, and the authorities are acting very quickly and in a very organised fashion. One of the eyewitness reports suggests that the initial explosion went off, but the secondary explosives that the person on that particular tube was trying to use actually wasn't triggered by the initial explosion.

Oh shite, really? I saw the thread title and hoped it was a hoax :<.

Gah I hate all of this crap, why do people have to be such knobs to eachother!
Unknown2005-07-21 13:24:02
God, people are honestly disgusting. I am one of the most misanthropic hateful people in existance. I despise people in the nastiest sense of the word. But this is just gross.

London Police Chief has, according to MSNBC confirmed 4 explosions.
Unknown2005-07-21 13:56:48
Do we have any info on casualties or deaths?
Unknown2005-07-21 14:16:41
I'm not hearing anything - only that they are "very serious", however, "fewer casualties and less severe than the bombings two weeks ago."
Unknown2005-07-21 14:18:27
I read a news report saying they weren't being treated as extreme emergencies. Gah.

As did I. I'm just quoting MSNBC's latest article, allegedly quoting London's police chief.

What's really sad, is I doubt these are the same people. Or even people affiliated with the same people.
Unknown2005-07-21 14:48:44
A few people are reporting only one injury, now.
Richter2005-07-21 15:52:36
On the morning news I hear either "four explosions, or four attempted explosions".
Athana2005-07-21 16:12:27
I just came back from London early this morning and from what I've heard there werent actually explosions, only threats or attempts.
Unknown2005-07-21 16:33:48
I was, and still am, hearing four minor explosions, with one injury.

And, at least one was an explosion - a bomb doesn't blow all the windows out of a bus. A bomb going off does.

From the English news:

The people behind the latest attacks in London meant to kill, the head of the Metropolitan Police has said.

But Sir Ian Blair said evidence left at the scenes could be very helpful to police and added "the intention of the terrorists has failed".

Attempts were made to set off explosives at four locations, including three Tube stations and on one bus.

Mayor Ken Livingstone praised the emergency services and said the people of London would "get through this".

Police sources say the blasts may have been near-simultaneous and that they are being linked with the 7 July bombs.

They say a number of fugitives are being sought. Two people have been arrested in Whitehall.

'Unexploded' devices

Sir Ian said there was a "resonance" with the bomb attacks two weeks ago, but that it was too early to draw any conclusions about whether they were linked.

Police forensic experts are examining the scenes, at Tube stations in Oval, Warren Street and Shepherd's Bush, and on a bus in Shoreditch, east London.

He said important information could be recovered. "From what I understand, some of the devices remain unexploded," he said.

The Met commissioner warned against "smearing" any particular community with the blame for Thursday's attacks.

"These are criminal acts and we are in pursuit of a set of criminals," he said.

Police cordons

Eyewitnesses heard bangs and saw abandoned rucksacks at the sites of the incidents at Warren Street and Oval tube stations as well as the number 26 bus, which was travelling from Waterloo towards Hackney and had just entered Hackney Road.

There was an attempt to cause an explosion at Shepherd's Bush Hammersmith and City line, police said.

Police told reporters that a man had threatened to blow himself up and then ran off.

At Warren Street and Oval a man was seen running away from the scene.

On the bus, there were no injuries and the bus suffered no structural damage.

Large areas around all four sites were cordoned off. Tests for chemical, biological and radiological weapons proved negative.

One person was injured at Warren Street. There were reports the injured person may have been holding a rucksack containing the detonator.

Police are also searching University College Hospital which is near to one of the bomb locations for the Asian man that was seen running away from the scene. =/

From what I heard, it appeared that they found 3 unexploded bombs, and one that killed one person..

I'm curious as to how quickly they found the bombs that didn't explode. And what enabled them to find them.

Also, some people arrested at the areas had nothing to do with the bombing.

I heard something like, the triggering devices exploded, but not the bombs. Or something. I also heard the bombs went off, but they were poorely made/low grade explosives.

I ALSO heard that, for one of the subways, a guy walked in, waited till the door was closing, dropped it and ducked out. Everyone promptly rushed to the next car.

And unattended rucks, only 2 weeks after the last bombing, would indeed trigger curiousity.
Daganev2005-07-21 18:46:09
Very impressive, the Brits handle this like pros.
Unknown2005-07-21 18:47:31
Indeed. I'm still shuffling through so much B.S., though, I honestly don't know what's true and what isn't.

At least they weren't told to go back to work after two planes hit their office buildings, eh? tongue.gif
