World-emotes

I guess this is a bit of leftover code for extraplanar things from a while back in Achaea or something, but can we have world-emotes stretch more than one plane? Some do, some don't. Sitting on the Ethereal, I saw Lacostian's castle come out yesterday, but in the same place I didn't see the Furrikin get to work today, and it's kinda annoying. Any chance we can change this? Wouldn't stretch the suspension of disbelief too much - you can see things when underground, indoors, etc.

Being indoors is a LOT different than not being on the same plane of reality. And something an Elder God does could surely be visible across planes. But the orcs aren't really much into planar travel.

Well some of them are intended, why would you notice something in Acknor if you're on Astral, for example. Whereas Lacostian is Divine so everything He does can be on all planes at once for all you know.

Well, the castle wasn't, was it?

(And Sylphas, the point is that you can't see these things from underground, you can't see them from another plane either. It's the same thing, even if the plane "could be" more extreme.)
Sylphas2005-07-22 02:11:21
Yes, but it happened, so I needed some way to explain it. You can -obviously- see through solid rock and roofs and whatnot, because you did. -blithely applies real world rules to game worlds-

It makes sense that you can't tell things from off-plane sometimes, but this might be a case where realism needs to lose. Not being able to find out what's going on or that something is going on at all is a heavy cost. In other IRE games without "an emphasis on extra-planar travel" it's quite reasonable that you can expect isolation on Polyargos, but I think that might be overburdening in Lusternia where we have been given lots of reasons to spend great amounts of time off Prime.

An IC explanation is easy enough -- make it a Planar skill.

World emotes all work the same, so the furrikin was likely an area emote, which means it wasn't supposed to be seen world-wide.
Shiri2005-07-22 03:36:29
It wasn't area emote, for sure. No way were all the Seren hanging around randomly in Acknor...

You're missing a gradation. There's also something called a planemote, which only goes to the Plane of the player or replica that generates it.
Lisaera2005-07-22 13:44:19
Yes, there are ones that go to everyone and ones that go just to the plane, as Rhysus says, we can do any of them and the way the Acknor changeover was programmed, it was meant to be Prime-only.

The odd thing considering you can't -see- things on different planes, is how you can -hear- shouts. I must have some hypersensitive ears to hear someone shouting on Prime, when I'm on water

Broadcasting your voice further over the aether is gained by learning Planar, it's an actual skill.
