After reading Richter's manse wishlist (And lots of <3 for Hajamin's reply), it reminded me that, last I heard anyway, Alchemists HAVE to be a part of a commune, in order to use their trade skill.
However, it's civilized equivilant, Enchantments, does not require a city nexus. Balance it! Quick! Either let rogues use alchemy, or make enchantments city-only, as intended.

Rogues can use alchemy. E.g, Beldaran, an alt that went over to Magnagora and (briefly) used Glomdoring's alembic to provide refills to them.

Gasp egads. Then they both should be changed. I was under the impression they required a link to a Nature nexus. This may have been changed, when the Court and Coven could summon cudgels from the Ethereal? No idea. Maybe I'm totally wrong.

I see no reason why they should be changed. Do you have any good reason?

Because they're supposed to be unique to cities and communes. And Lusternia discourages rogues. Peer.

And yet, so far, I know of two people who have seriously enchanted/brewed for another commune/city, Anarias and Beldaran, and I believe Anarias lost his enchanting abilities by now and haven't heard of Beldaran since Glomdoring came out.
I wouldn't mind it being changed, but it's not a huge deal if it isn't.

Anarias did some recharging for me a few days ago (just before I quit, in fact). But even so, rogue enchanters and alchemists are very very rare; I think things are working as they are.
Anarias2005-08-01 15:16:29
I am still very much in possession of my enchanting abilities. The system works just fine as it is to discourage rogues. I am quite handicapped skillwise and I think about the benefits of joining a guild daily. Its no picnic being a rogue, it takes a lot of effort to get any enjoyment out of it at all.
Sylphas2005-08-01 16:00:48
Ah, I thought you had talked about joining the Serenguard. Probably misremembered your post about charging people to mean you had.
Anarias2005-08-03 18:02:38
I've talked about joining the Serenguard but I'm more interested in Hartstone actually.
Richter2005-08-03 18:09:06
Still think that if a rogue can have a forge, same should be for alchemists and enchanters...

Pity, your bardic certainly was reminiscent of some of the things I was trying to do with the Serenguard (though all that is likely going to evaporate now).
Anarias2005-08-03 21:38:40
My bardic was inspired directly from what I knew you were attempting to do in the Serenguard. To be honest, I loved the vision quest ideas you had and so much more about the Serenguard too. For a number of factors, one of which is your departure Gwylifar, I just don't think I'll end up going there.

I felt that if we knew more about Ruka, the events in the story would have made more sense to the reader. So I assume you didn't tell us anything about Ruka to ensure that they wouldn't. I probably would have gone the other way if I'd been writing it, but then I'd've been writing it to demonstrate what I mean by vision quests, not for the sake of the story or its art, and I assume you were doing more the latter. Still, I'm not sure I'd've gone that way. (Am I allowed to say this kind of stuff?)
Anarias2005-08-04 03:29:34
You most certainly are allowed to say that kind of stuff!
Edit - Oh and I'm not sure if this has any connection or not but I've seen a couple of Ruka's since the bardic's were judged. Makes you wonder.
