Estarra, originally replied in my first thread on this saying the code would not allow for it, and after some thought, I realised I was confused by which code exactly. The Rapture code itself or the way furniture is coded?

My thought is this:

Instead of directly crafting the furniture, you go through all the motions, but what you create is a "token". i.e token12345 "a token of a king sized bed"

These tokens would be stockable in shops, and the purchaser would take them to where they were to be placed and . This would remove the token from the game and place the item it represented in the room description.

Effectively you are adding a step to the code, and shifting where the add to room description comes into play.

This is a wonderful trade and I think it is seriously hindered by people not being able to sell their wares as easily as any other tradeskill.

I fully endorse this idea.

And move that it apply to books too.

Was going to say that.

Tokens? They could be sold in sets of pieces which you assemble yourself wherever you want.
Skyla2005-08-16 13:17:43
While we're at it, can we design husbands that can be sold in sets of pieces which you assemble yourself wherever you want... and deconstructed on a whim??

*squeal*
Yrael2005-08-16 13:18:52
Do we also get to only assemble certain bits of spouses?
Gregori2005-08-16 13:19:53
Only if we can construct wives that have no vocal cords so we don't have to listen to incessant nagging.
Skyla2005-08-16 13:19:57
WHAT A GREAT IDEA YRAEL!!

I'll be only assembling Gregori's wallet.
Gregori2005-08-16 13:22:58
Remind me again why I got married to you?
Yrael2005-08-16 13:28:26
Because I rejected you.
Bau2005-08-16 13:44:26
I could remind you, but I don't think you'd like what I havta say.

So we really would have Lusternian Ikea RTA furniture. biggrin.gif

I'm not adverse to the idea of 'tokens' except insofar as it's hard to imagine the RP for it. Do you build it in a special warehouse, and the token sends delivery people to drop it off at you?

However (there's always a 'however'), even that would require a bit of coding. Some projects have been pushed aside far longer than I wanted (mostly because of books/library) and it simply is a matter of priorities.

Feel free to bump up this idea in a month (or after the next big release) to remind me about it.

happy.gif That's really great. I like the "we will probably get around to this" thing! Knowing that stuff is being worked on its lovely!
Richter2005-08-16 15:28:57
The tokens could be taken to a room, and have those crafters rush in and assemble it. You know, those ones that disassemble stuff for you?

In a world of magic and mystery the possibilities for how exactly it works are fairly limitless. I am glad to hear though that you are open to the idea, and certainly I wasn't suggesting that all other ideas be dropped to push this through. I mostly wished to know if it was possible to be done. I am sure you will see this bumped at some later date though.

Thank you for responding!

Now that's a fine, fair answer. smile.gif

I'm afraid if we have shops that sell furniture, you just know what will come next.

Ever seen TV ads for furniture stores??!
Richter2005-08-16 16:29:14
Low, Low prices, at Crazy Richter's furniture warehouse!

...stuff like that?
