people of the same race are too separated... we need stuff that would make them have more in common.
like possibly RACETELLS (RT) where you can talk to all the people of the same race at once. kindof pointless, but it does bring them more together.
or possibly race heads, like leaders of different races. leaders wouldn't have any real power, since they can't really punish anyone below them, but they kindof would act as a speaker for the entire race, and they'd be voted into power by the other people of the race. or maybe, depending on the race, there's different ways of determining who the leader is? for example, lucidian leaders could just be the oldest active lucidian, since they're that kind of scholarly like race. the leader would pretty much only do things like if a city/commune is determining weather this or this race should be allowed, or something that specifically affects that race, like gaudaguchi with dracnari and hallifax with lucidians, or something like that. possibly some races would have leaders, like taurians and igashos? as they're rather nomadic races, and it'd add to RP that way.
or possibly something really simple but probably very uneffective; when members of the same race are following eachother and one gets exp all of them of that race get a little bit more exp than normal, depending on how many of that race are there, and possibly if there's people of other races there or not in the group.
or something else? i just think there should be more of a connection between people of races, although, i think that all you people probably don't think so...
i don't think that the programming for a race channel or the experience thing is very hard, but i don't know this programming language.

i know, but it doesn't really seem that the races are very important to people other than what stats they get in which race, even though that's there.
Vix2005-08-19 01:11:11
The races will not get along with each other because every one is usuable for opposing cities/communes (excluding specialized races and excluding faelings from that). Gwylifar would never get buddy buddy with Alger for example.
Gwylifar2005-08-19 02:59:34
Actually, I did get Alger into the Totem Tribe and we did talk about some racial stuff together. There was always a hint of underlying tension, but we kept it in control within the tribe. We would have done more if I hadn't left. It's all doable, you just have to roleplay it out; don't try to pretend the nation-against-nation conflict isn't there, just find IC reasons to do stuff in spite of it.

Woot. I could talk with... oh, right.

Dress Gwylifar in Jadryga's skin.
Dress Alger is Ysbail's. Bingo. All set, buddy buddy, happy snuggly.

I've always been a fan of this. When I had a Aslaran I played as if all fellow Aslarans were brothers and sisters. She loved them even though she may have hated their actions. It was their life to live- if you get what I mean. Anyways, I've thought of something similar, especially since we have racial villages. It'll be nice if a group of characters would actually gather there.
While I don't really like the idea of race tells, I did like the HOWL skill that the lupine characters of Imperian had. But I think a simplier idea would to start a racial clan like Gwylifar did, then you could just use clantells.

well, there's not really enough igashos to make a clan, or enough of many races, like taurian or krokani, and in clans not everyone joins, so it's not really all united. also, in clans, people can choose not to join cause of politics of it or something, this would kind of force them to be together.
Exarius2005-08-19 14:14:56
I had the open aslaran racial clan dating back to early December. Didn't try to cross the taint/non-taint lines, but otherwise I invited every aslaran I could find (with judicious use of RWHO), and I think they all joined.
And after they joined, they pretty much did nothing. It was a lot like having a 500,000 gp paperweight. It wasn't until I finally decided to create a formal pride within the racial clan and appoint myself Raja that anything started to happen.
I'm still pursuing racial role-play with the Shanthine Pride, I just ditched the "everybody into the pool" attitude, and it's working much, much better now that I'm acting like a leader instead of a chat room moderator.
So: racial clan? I say don't waste your money, unless you're going to give it more focus and direction than that. All else being equal, you are not going to get along with every other player who just happens to choose the same race as you, and inviting them into your fold out of some sense of RP obligation is a grief no one needs.

In point of fact, a lot was done, but it was mostly kept secret from Exarius, as he's been told, for reasons that have more to do with him than the overall concept, and which are not worth rehashing now, particularly after the moderators have cleaned this up. But the concluding point I can agree entirely with: a clan is only a tool; it's the people in the clan that make things happen. In particular, it needs at least one strong-willed person to give everyone else momentum, but without stifling other contributions; it's a delicate balance.

That'd be lovely, if it wasn't for the dog-in-a-manger role-play that goes on over the villages.
The Shanthine used to hang out in Shanthmark all the time, while it was under Seren control, but just how much RP time do you think a bunch of Seren and Celestian aslaran could spend there now without someone coming along and bellow at us to get out, or worse?
I've never once lifted a hand against either player or aligned NPC, yet there are players who will "shoot first and ask questions later" if I happen to stray into a village under the influence of a tainted community, regardless of any political goings on in the game.

Gwylifar, please: we all know Ysbail's on your side -- that was her RP -- and the much-absent Axella wanted to have it both ways.
Gelo and Neuf declined to admit there was any truth to your accusations toward me, though they too wanted to stay on the fence, so I finally just let them go from the pride because I wanted to get rid of ambiguity.
That left 8 active pride members, all of whom openly recoiled at your demanding that aslaran be role-played as beasts with a few sentient traits, and most of those player have remained on as the active core of the Shanthine Pride.
Please stop this "the masses hate you, and you just don't know it" whispering campaign, and find an aslaran who's willing to step forward and testify to my supposed tyranny.

Having races come together would be good for only one thing, bringing peace to the world. If the races would establish laws that their people have to abide to, then it would be alright. A problem that would arise though would be racial wars and that is something we wouldn't want. I wouldn't want Magnagora to evolve into a hot spot for Viscantis to slaughter Elfen.

1. Races never make laws. Do you see white, black, asian, etc laws, created by them?
2. It wouldn't promote "world peace", it would give someone a sense that they're more than a bag of stats and maybe a neat trick.
3. Why not racial wars? We have organization wars, which are far larger and less interesting than a racial war.
4. Magnagora already -is- a hot spot for viscanti to slaughter elfen, they're -very- much looked down up on there, same as if a viscanti was to live in serenwilde.

I don't think there's a single sentence in there that is not touched by some blatant, egregious untruth; it's really a remarkable collection, in fact. What's worse is I am starting to think you honestly believe every word of this. Very well... you need a villain and a rival so badly you'll keep me as yours even when I'm not even in the game anymore, then I'm serving a function. From all accounts, pretty near no one puts any stock in what you say anyway, so your gross misrepresentations of what I'm saying don't even matter. Only thing is, I refuse to grow a long mustache and wax the tips for you, but apart from that, have fun reviling me and defining yourself by my shadow.
Just please find time to think through one thing. How many times have we heard the same refrain from you? "I intentionally cut myself off from people and refuse to interact with them. Why don't they adulate me for the things I do in private where they can't see?" If you can't figure out anything else, try to at least figure out that.
I thought you'd be a better winner than a loser, but it seems you're about the same either way. Goodbye.

You are a bit mistaken there.
When given the opportunity some people of a race will make laws for its race. I.e. KKK, Black Panthers, Women's Liberation (though thats a sex not a race)
Also, I believe when the Manchurians took over China they made rules about haircuts for their race.
